This is my second year staying in September at the Gables. On each occasion I have stayed in different rooms, but both rooms have been spotlessly clean and welcoming. The host Sue is a wonderfully hospitable person and the food is exceptional. I would definately recommend a visit if you happen to be visiting Exmoor or surrounding areas. Bike Friendly too

We can only agree with the other reviewers on this site. The Gables is a wonderful place to stay the weekend. Sue goes out of her way to ensure that all of her guests are comfortable and their every need is catered for. The rooms are very clean and warm, with comfy beds and fluffy towels. The B & B is on the edge of Porlock but within a short walking distance to many excellent restaurants and pubs. There are some nice walks in the Exmoor countryside for even the novice ambler. On the weekend we stayed there the weather was lovely which only added to our experience. I can only say we will almost certainly return Pete & Lynn Surrey

We were bowled over by the quality of this B&B. Gentle central heating; perfect for late September. Beautiful English Breakfast breakfast which included good quality muesli, fruit and yoghurt which are not always on offer. No sign of any packaged cut bread either. The bedrooms were outstanding - simply furnished but immaculately clean and with top quality mattress, pillows and soft bed linen. In the bathroom were fluffy soft white towels and endless hot water. Our bedroom even had lovely views of the small cottage garden. Added to this Sue was particularly hospitable. Have never been stirred to write any review online before!

I can only repeat what others have said - The Gables is a fabulous B&B. It is warm and cosy, essential after a long day walking in sometimes wet weather. The rooms are comfortable, dogs are welcomed, owner Sue is very friendly and helpful, breakfasts are amazing. In fact elaborating on the breakfasts, I would say the best I have ever had. So big that lunch wasn't necessary and it became quite tricky to fit in the obligatory cream tea! Well cooked - what more can I say - yummy!
The Gables is ideally located in the heart of Porlock but not on the main road so not noisy. From Porlock there are lovely walks all over Exmoor.

A lovely place to stay, both the accommodation and the area. Very quiet, and handily placed for walking into Porlock village for meals, etc. The hosts were very friendly and paid a lot of attention to detail. We were able to take our dog, which was essential for us. Highly recommended. Bob and Sue, Leics.

Five of us stayed here for two nights for a family wedding. The house itself is delightful and the attention to detail was wonderful. For what was provided we thought it was very good value - en-suite rooms with toiletries and lovely towels (and a towel warmer). Very well furnished with a comfy bed and very good bed-linen, a TV with DVD player and lots of DVDs to choose from. There was a guests lounge with TV, access to the garden and lots of info on the area, where we were offered coffee on arrival. And of course the breakfast - it was more like the standard I would expect from a five star hotel than a B&B. Fantastic choice of fresh fruit, cereals, preserves, yoghurts, and a great choice for cooked breakfast with quality ingredients (including Veggy options) really well cooked. Even the coffee was great (fresh cafetiere) and a choice of different teas. Can't wait to stay again!

We stayed in the family room for five nights, first impression was that everything was clean and tidy. After a couple of nights we started to notice the attention to detail that they pay to everything here, this is one of the best run B&Bs we have ever stayed in.
