“Perfect break away”
Reviewed May 15, 2012

We have returned from a two night break at the Culbone, and thoroughly enjoyed every moment.

The staff are exceptionally well trained and looked after us so well throughout our stay (I wasn't surprised to learn that many of them are management trainees). It was exceptionally busy Saturday night, but even so the staff were very attentive, very professional and went out of their way to make sure we were being looked after. The service was faultless, the room comfortable, lovely linen, and the food was wonderful. Many thanks to all.

My wife and I spent a very enjoyable evening in the restaurant with excellent food and service, the staff were very attentive and we were well looked after.
Following an enjoyable evening we retired to our room which was very comfortable with a very nice en suite, a T.V. and coffee and tea making facilities with complimentary biscuits.
After a peaceful nights sleep we enjoyed a full English breakfast with tea and toast..We skipped the cereal and as it was the breakfast kept us going all day and we only felt a bit peckish about 5pm.
The cleanliness of the Culbone Inn you could not better!

Room Tip: Although we had a roadside room it was a very quiet road and we had a very restful night.

A group of 11 post Spring Harvest revellers came here for Tuesday lunch and had a really good feed. Everything was fresh, tasty and filling, served professionally and promptly. Good price range from steaks to baguettes so all pockets catered for. Child friendly and dog friendly from my observations and definitely group friendly.
The scotch egg with chips was to die for, home made both with chutney and salad. The bass in beer batter tasted good too as did the mushy peas my wife never cares for. I just wanted to try the wild tiger prawns and the tandoori lamb chops and the burger and the puddings...
Book it if you want a decent genuinely homemade meal for all the family.

Thank you so much for your kind words.

It's all about the food for us at The Culbone. We have thoroughly searched Exmoor for the best producers and produce that we can find. It's really rewarding to read that you enjoyed Jack Scarterfields recipes as much as we do.

I have passed your comments to the team.

We hope to see you soon

My husband and I try to escape the children a least once a year. Sometimes we travel far and sometimes as in this case a few miles! We had heard so many good comments from friends and colleagues about the Culbone's great menu and welcoming staff we decided to spend our anniversary there. It was a misty, damp Exmoor evening but we arrived to a very warm welcome, great food and a lovely room which was clean, warm with a very comfortable bed. The breakfast again was superb.

We have just experienced a perfect few days at The Culborne. The staff were so welcoming not only to us but also our 2 cocker spaniels who had their own patio adjoining our room. The room and bathroom was immaculately clean and warm with a good quality bed. This Inn gave us an excellant base to explore the surrounding countryside both walking and via the car.

We ate in the restaurant on 2 nights and I could not fault the food or service. My husband stated that it was the best burger that he had ever eaten - high praise as he is used to eating in the most prestigious restaurants around the world.

I would not hesitate to reccomend this Inn to anyone else and we shall certainly be going back again.

Have been here several times now and the menu is always evolving (following customer feedback), which is good. Been here for a quiet Monday Pie Night, midweek and at the weekend, when busy. The staff have been consistently friendly and efficient and the views over Exmoor are superb. There were three real ales on when we last visited, although this is not a pub where you come to drink, it is a restaurant with a view. Recommended if you want to get away from traditional pubs and pub grub.

We stayed at here for a weekend in February with some friends, Exmoor itself is a wonderful place, The Culbone just added that something extra special.

The staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the food and local area. There is obviously a passion for local produce, all the food was superb and cooked to perfection.
My husband was particularly please when our waitress, Becky, brought out all the different meat cuts and explained which steak was best for your personal taste.

The rooms were clean, spacious and most importantly warm! Breakfast was included in the room, there was a lot of choice and it was all cooked to order.
We stayed in room 1 which had the added benefit of a small patio with wonderful views of the Exmoor valleys.

We shall definitely be returning!

Alex and myself Annette, have recently taken over the Culbone Stables Inn on Exmoor. It is situated on the A39 between Porlock and Lynton in the idyllic heart of Exmoor. Our Inn and gardens are in a beautiful setting and have exceptional views across the valley of Coombe. Our aim has been to renovate the restaurant back to a welcome, friendly Country Inn/pub. Our menu is traditional pub fare, at reasonable prices, using local produce. We welcome walkers, cyclists, families and dogs. We have 5 on suite bedrooms. 2 are opposite each other (one twin, one double) with their own landing and would be perfect for families. Room 1 has its own private patio, with stunning views.
