“Weekend Break”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

We had a special deal to stay at this guesthouse and it proved to be very good value. We had a double room with a compact en-suite shower room. Both the bedroom and the ensuite were well appointed and the bed was very comfortable. There were some nice touches such as tissues and notepaper in the bedroom and a full range of toiletries in the ensuite. Additionally two bottles of spring water were provided in the bedroom.
Our deal included dinner on the first night and having advised the proprietors of our choices from their menu in advance of our arrival we found the home cooked food very good. There was a good choice of food for breakfast both hot and cold. There was a combined dining room and lounge with a television and a supply of books and games and the proprietors were happy for guests to have access to the lounge at any time. The bedrooms also had televisions. We felt very welcome and nothing seemed to be too much trouble.

We wanted a long weekend away from work to recharge the old batteries and we certainly had very enjoyable stay with John and Elaine. Their beautiful Guest House is a very interesting building which combines character with modern clean and very comfortable rooms with beautiful en-suite. It really was a home from home experience with everything in the room that we could possibly have needed. John has lived in the area since childhood and his local knowlede helped us plan our days out. If the walk up Porlock Hill seems a bit daunting, John will give you a lift to the top so you can enjoy a good ramble down.
Fabulous food served on hot plates, just what we wanted - Thank you John and Elaine!

We had a two night stay here with a LivingSocial deal that was excellent value. John and Elaine were excellent hosts and made us feel very welcome. We had a lovely en-suite room on the top floor with views out to sea. Elaine made lovely breakfasts which set us up for the day. We are keen walkers and John took the time to tell us about good walks in the area and he very kindly lent us his o/s map which came in very useful. Nothing was too much trouble. Would we recommend this guest house?.......most certainly!

Room Tip: Top floor rooms have the best view

Jon and Elaine made us feel very welcome at their comfortable and cosy B&B. They were always on hand to offer advice on walks, lending us a map (which proved very useful on a trip up to Dunkery Beacon). Breakfast was fantastic, all top quality and tailored to whatever we asked for. We also had dinner one evening which was excellent, served next to their open fire. Definitely recommended as a comfortable and welcoming place to stay whilst exploring Exmoor.

Room Tip: Room 2 had a good view and was very comfortable.

We stayed here for a two night break and, not knowing what to expect, were extremely happy with what we found.
You could not hope to meet a more friendly couple than John and Elaine. The general ambience was just so warm and welcoming, our room had a lovely cottage like feel to it and the breakfast was exceptional.
We left feeling that we had found ourselves an extremely pleasant home from home in this idyllic part of the world.

We've just had a wonderful break in beautiful Porlock at Rose Bank Guest House. We stayed in Room 2 which is on the first floor with a lovely bay window. The room was nice and big with an en suite with a lovely shower, and the bed that was really comfortable. A nice place to relax after a long day out and about. Elaine is a good cook and we enjoyed the lovely breakfasts and dinner she cooked for us. John is a local man and knows what's where and how to get there. He kindly lent us an OS map to help us get about too. Porlock is a pretty village, with lovely shops and beautiful scenery. We would highly recommend Rose Bank as a base for a carefree break anytime. Thank you Elaine and John.
