I never book a hotel when we go away, I like to take my chances and not be tied down to a fixed routine. Besides, what's the worst that can happen? But we really landed on our feet when Rose Bank was recommended to us by one of the local tea rooms. As soon as we met John & Elaine, we knew we were in safe hands. John showed us to our room, and what a lovely room, clean, fully-equipped - TV, hair-dryer, tea/coffee-making facilities etc. etc. Very comfortable bed, probably one of the best I've slept in. Beautiful en-suite with a fantastic, extra-large shower, just great. John chatted and explained how everything worked, what a very charming fellow. They have a great system for ordering breakfast, you can pretty much have what you want and as much as you want. I'm afraid I rather took advantage, I can't resist a big cooked breakfast when I'm staying overnight somewhere! We decided to eat out in the evening, despite a very tempting evening menu. No point travelling if you're going to hole-up in the hotel is there?? Not surprisingly, breakfast was delicious, cooked to order and served in a lovely room with an open fire. All very relaxed and friendly. Here we got to meet Elaine properly, just as charming as John and just as easy to talk to, I think we could have chatted all morning! We're not demanding people, but I'm sure nothing would have been too much trouble for John & Elaine. All in all, a fantastic find, and exceptional value. We would definitely return, no doubt about it!

We found the place by driving by and needed place to stay for a night. Knocked on the door and then the fantastic experience started. Since John opened the door we knew we were lucky to find the place. John and Elaine made us feel very welcome. They were very communicative, lovely and welcoming. Always clean, neat and well presented. Of course, room was very clean, bed was amazing to sleep on. Bathroom also clean. Comfortable shower. Not enough can be said about the food. We had a dinner with them and it was stunning. Same apply to breakfast. Delicious! So I'd like to thank them by doing this review. Highly recommend to everyone. Ou, and there is a car park!

Rosebank is a great B&B. John and Elaine make you feel very welcome and nothing is too much trouble. The room was lovely and very clean. We had the special winter deal with the evening meal included which was extremely good value. The food was very good especially the breakfast. Will definately return.

Just returned from a fabulous but all too short stay at the wonderful Rosebank. Having stayed on previous visits, my fiance and I were greeted like returning friends and we really felt as though we were staying in a friends home. Nothing is ever too much trouble for John and Elaine, the attention to detail is second to none. The room was amazing, tastefully decorated and the bed was huge!!
Breakfast is cooked to order (not precooked and then reheated as one so often finds)and the choice of items is amazing, all locally sourced. John and Elaine completely deserve their breakfast award!!
The location of the guest house is great for exploring exmoor and surroundings and John and Elaine are very happy to recommend places to visit and things to do. The off road parking is an added plus as parking in Porlock is not the easiest thing in the world!
We love visiting Porlock and staying at Rosebank makes any stay an absolute joy. Having just arrived home, we can't wait for our next visit!
John and Elaine, we will be seeing you soon!!

We have stayed at this b&b a number of times with our labrador. We have enjoyed our stay everytime. John and Elaine really make you feel welcome. After you've stayed once, the next times you visit you are made to feel one of the family. The breakfasts are amazing with locally sourced ingredients. Certainly sets you up for a day of visiting the area. Dinner is also really yummy and served in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Would definately recommend as a place to stay in Porlock.

My wife and I stayed for two nights at Rose Bank. I had stayed before and knew what to expect but my wife hadn't. We were met by John and Elaine with their warm greeting and shown to our very pleasantly furnished and tastefully decorated room, facing the front and overlooking the sea. The king-size bed was extremely comfortable and we both slept extremely well both nights. Cooked breakfast is ordered the night before by filling in a card which is left at reception, and it is freshly cooked when you come down. There is a wide choice of cereals, fruit and juice and marmalade and jam. Most of the food is locally sourced and excellent quality. John's service is impeccable and the food delicious. We had the evening meal both nights and again this is ordered in advance from a wide wide choice of menu, and again the food is freshly cooked and served. It would be impossible to find any fault at Rose Bank - absolutely everything you could imagine is provided. Perhaps the only item lacking is a bathroom scales, but then this might be inadvisable in view of the excellent food!! For a high quality experience at a price that is extremely competative, look no further!!

We cotacted the Porlock Visitor Centre to arrange suitable accomodation for us and the very helpful ladies booked us in to stay at Rose Bank. Upon our arrival John was there to help with our suitcase and once inside we met Elaine and within minutes we felt we had known them for years. Our room was freh and clean with really comfortable beds. The shower room can only be described as perfect. The meals are cooked fresh and none of this precooked and reheated rubbish. The first thing we noticed in the dining room was a real log fire. That is a lovely touch as it takes you back to childhood days. As I have said the food is cooked fresh for you and is of local produce wherever possible. We had a very pleasant stay and hope to return later this year. Should anyone find something to complain about at Rose Bank all I can say that person MUST be a born moaner. Everthing seems to have been thought of to make your stay as best possible with plenty of literature of Porlock and surrounding area.

Room Tip: We stayed in room two which was suitable to our requirements. This room had a nice view and was ov...
