“Beautiful house in a beautiful area with many thoughtful touches as a welcome when we arrived.”
Reviewed July 22, 2018 for a stay in July 2018

We were fortunate to have a wonderful week of weather and were able to eat outside in the lovely quiet back garden. We were there with three generations and the grandchildren loved playing in the garden and in the spacious main room. The bedrooms were very comfortable and the house was far enough away from the road not to notice much traffic noise at all. The views were amazing and Porlock itself was a lovely friendly village with the coast not far away. Perfect for walking the dog and children.
We were very touched by the welcome gift of a cake and wine when we arrived and even dog towels, bowls and special fork for the dog food was provided.

“Fantastic Holiday Property”
Reviewed June 18, 2018 for a stay in June 2018

Beautiful views across the channel to Wales. A lovely garden with a sunny patio area and tables and chairs for al fresco meals. Garden is totally secure for dogs. The location right at the foot of Porlock Hill makes it easy to stroll into Porlock for shops, pubs, cafes etc. Porlock is very central for visiting other attractions in the area such as Dunster, Minehead, Lynmouth and Lynton and the moors. The house is beautifully presented with everything supplied, even bowls and towels for the dogs. Very comfortable and cosy. Tumble dryer, dishwasher, washing machine. Great walks can be accessed easily from the property

Thank you, we very much appreciate the time you have taken to write a review. We are delighted that you enjoyed your holiday and had the opportunity to appreciate the local attractions of medieval Dunster, Lynton and Lynmouth, Minehead and the moorlands. We are glad that your dogs enjoyed our garden, we welcome well behaved dogs as in my opinion there is nowhere more beautiful for dog walking than Exmoor National Park. We hope we can tempt you back to return to stay with us again before too long! Jacquie

“Excellent all round!”
Reviewed January 28, 2018 for a stay in January 2018

Maxwelton is a delightful property with stunning views across to Wales.
It is extremely well-equipped with everything we needed for our short break in January. The dog towels were very useful indeed as was the delicious home- made cake on arrival.
The garden is fully enclosed, which our dog Charlie loved running around.
We were plenty warm enough and made good use of the many maps and guides to help us in our travels.

A visit to Heddon’s Mouth is not to be missed, as well as The Hunters Inn nearby.
Both Ship pubs in Porlock and Porlock Weir do great food and are very dog friendly.

We will definitely return. A superb find!

We are delighted you enjoyed your January mid-week escape and hope to welcome you back to stay with us again before too long. It is a beautiful drive to Heddon's Mouth, I hope you were able to incorporate seeing the spectacular Valley of the Rocks with its wild goats en route and Woody Bay.

“Relaxing 5 star accommodation in a lovely location”
Reviewed January 20, 2018 for a stay in January 2018

This was our second visit, but by no way our last. Maxwelton has everything you need and more. Its perfect for couples and families and even has special doggy items (although we have no dog!). It's warm, very clean and the welcome cake is an extra bonus. The area is great for long and short walks and this time we made it to the top of Exmoor's highest point - Dunkery Beacon - with amazing views. Even in mid cold January there is plenty to do and when you are worn out there is the Ship Inn next door and the pie shop in the village to fill you up.

Thank you so much for taking the time for writing a review and we are delighted that you plan to return to stay with us again hopefully in the not too distant future. The views from Dunkery Beacon are incredible. On the way to Dunkery Beacon there are also great walks at Webber's Post with some interesting wood carvings along the route, and of course Bossington (with its delicious tea rooms) and footpaths in Horner Woods are also fabulous too.

“Wonderful New Year stay”
Reviewed January 4, 2018 for a stay in December 2017

We were delighted to be able to make a return visit to the house for five days over New Year and again we recommend it highly - thank you for a lovely stay. The house is beautifully maintained, comfortable, warm, welcoming and large enough to accommodate six adults with ease. We did several walks from the door and enjoyed Dunster Castle and grounds, Valley of the Rocks/Lynton as well as a trip on the West Somerset Steam railway. Whatever the weather, the view from the window seat towards the beach is always a good one and was much enjoyed by us all.
Porlock is a lovely friendly village with nice cafes and shops. The Ship Inn has a good range of local ciders and beers and is highly recommended.
Thanks to Mrs Miles for the delicious cake and we also enjoyed the bottle of bubbly on New Year's Eve.
We are all looking forward to returning later in the year.

Reviewed December 11, 2017 for a stay in December 2017

We our had a 3 night stay here in Maxwelton. Fabulous in every way possible. Warm and very comfortable. Everything was thought of. Even a Christmas tree in the lounge area.
I was unwell during our stay. But due to the comfortable surroundings it was made a lot easier.
It is the best self catering accommodation I have stayed in. It is in a lovely position in the village.Wonderful views across to Wales and lots of birds in the garden.
Well done we will definitely be back and recommend to friends
Thankyou
