“very larger rooms if not a little dated”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

could not believe the size of the rooms when we arrived - massive !!!

helpful staff and a peaceful and comfortable nights sleep

was pleasantly surprised by the bar food which I thought for the money (cheap) was good

only complaint is that whilst everything was clean - it felt a bit dated

Good ambiance, well appointed public rooms. Excellent freshly cooked breakfast, rather than buffet style, which is often rather tired.

Only complaints - no extra blankets in bedroom on a cold night, bathroom a little dated, resulting in a shower tap difficult to turn.

Visited the bistro on Easter Sunday evening as was staying in North Petherton and didn't want to drive. There was quite a few tables taken and we were shown to a nice corner table in the main restaurant. The three course set meal was excellent. The starter, main and desert were all very good. In particular the roast beef seemed like the equivalent of an 8 oz steak and cooked to perfection. The service was discrete and attentive. We have often had lunch in the bar here but hadn't had an evening meal for some years. Will certainly be back.

The staff are excellent. The food is well cooked and prettily presented. The decor is very tired with lots of chipped paint and well worn carpets. In the dinning room there either splashes of soup or tomato ketchup on the skirting on the south window and the covering of the heating in the skirting had come away under the roadside window. My room and bathroom were spotless. However the lighting was very poor and quite difficult for reading. There was a bulge in the tiling above the bath and the sealant around the base of the shower screen was discoloured. A nice hotel which needs a lot of money and cosmetic work.

We just dropped in whilst passing for a quick lunchtime snack. We were glad that we did.

A very genial welcome by a smiling hostess who gave us a comfortable choice of seating and soon took our order. We had a sandwich and a Panini , tea and coffee. The price was around £18 so it was a little on the pricey side but we don't mind that when everything is just perfect.

We had a chat with Ian, the owner manager, and he was very friendly and was happy to spend some time with us and allow us to take a few pics. We did not experience the accommodation but going by all that we saw I can't imagine that everything on the hotel side of the business would be anything but well up to scratch, and I'm not talking 'bed bugs' ! Great place… do give it a try.

This Hotel is really an old fashioned coaching Inn with rooms added. But very nicely done. Rooms very big and comfortable. Guest lounge lovely, staff the best I have met. Family run I think and personal touch. Would have been better if we had been taken care of in the guest lounge but when we found somebody nothing too much trouble. Fair menu in Restaurant and Bistro but children's menu needed. All in all a lovely experience. Good car park.
