Description: Elegant 17th Century Inn located in a very peaceful location in one of the most beautiful villages in the West Country. Hinton St George is set in stunning rolling, typically English countryside on the borders of Somerset, Devon & Dorset. The Lord Poulett Arms has recently won numerous prestigious national awards including “Gastro Pub of the Year” from the Good Hotel Guide, & “National Dining Pub of the Year” in the Good Pub Guide & received superb reviews from every quality newspaper incl 9/10 for food & 9/10 service from The Sunday Times & “Best Sunday Lunch in the West Country” from The Observer. The Inn is furnished with taste & much of the furniture is antique. The quality of the food is the main draw to The Lord Poulett with it winning the Good Pub Guide “Somerset Dining Pub of the Year” in 2009, 2012, 2014 & 2015. The Inn has two gardens; one a French inspired knot garden with Wisteria covered pergola & Boules Piste & the other a typically English wild garden full of mistletoe covered apple tree’s, Hammocks & Love Seats & even a Five’s Wall (the forerunner to squash)

“Menu matters !”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

This is a cracking little pub set in a lovely old village. Great interior, lovely warm atmosphere and the food is of consistently good quality. My only grumble relates to the limited menu. I would love to visit more often with family members and friends but am put off by the very limited menu which never seems to change. The dinner menu appears to be the same as the lunch menu and Sunday lunch is not a great deal different. Please, please, please broaden the menu !
I hope the management will pick up on this soon.

“Fantastic Sunday lunch”
Reviewed March 26, 2013

Every time I return to The Lord Poulett Arms I am impressed with the friendly service and outstanding food. Entering on a very cold afternoon, to the smells of roast dinner and wood fires is a real pleasure. The food is excellent, good choice of reasonably priced wine and always good guest beers. The Sunday lunch is exceptional value, rare beef, Yorkshire pudding and real gravy. They also seem to promote local produce. Can't wait til next time.

“Lovely Food, Lovely Pub, lovely Village”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

The food at the Lord Poulett Arms is consistently good, either evening meals or Sunday lunches.
The pub may be a little off the beaten track (but enough people can find it to make it well worth booking a table) but its well worth the effort. It is a lovely old building with a great atmosphere in a truly beautiful South Somerset village with lots of lovely ham stone and thatch to make it a picture postcard location.

The menu has a good range of items on it all well cooked and they come with a good range of vegetables.
Sunday lunches are particularly recommended. Not the cheapest but always of very high quality.
There is always good beer well kept.

“Style over substance”
Reviewed March 19, 2013

This was our second visit this year and it proved a mixed experience. The dining rooms are very well laid out with welcoming fires and rustic furniture.
We ordered a selection of starters, salmon was very good but the savoury cheesecake was much too sweet and the scotch eggs were average in taste. The side salads were not as described on the menu and came with no dressing. The 'homemade' bread costs an extra £2.00 per portion and did not appear to be fresh or homemade. I cannot rate this pub as average as this is not average pub grub but it does not deserve the rating of very good.

“Going downhill”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

I have known this gastro-pub for many years. It originally had a Japanese chef who dazzled us with his inventive cooking. Since he left the standard of cooking has declined as indeed has the friendliness of the service. Three of us dined there and each ordered a different main course.
The beef casserole tasted like it had been made several days before and was tired from constant re-heating. The pork fritter was tasteless and the steak was served in a soup bowl. We did complain but were dealt with in a somewhat offhand manner.
