“Relaxing Night”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2012

Stayed here in May for one night on the way home from Exeter on a Friday night as we thought it would save us being stuck in the tarffic and what a good idea it was!
We were give the room with the four poster bed and lovely bathroom which was really clean and t well supplied with toiletries. There was sherry, mints and toffees in the room as well as dressing gowns and slippers.
Our evening meal was excellent and we thought the cooked breakfast the next morning was one of the best we've had, I don't often have them as they are too greasy but this was delicious.
Oh and a very warm welcome from the owners when we arrive.

We chose this as a centre to explore the surrounding area and booked for the week. Owners were excellent and all the staff were friendly and keen to make the stay as pleasant as possible. We ate in the restaurant every night but one, and the food was wonderful on each night, with a menu that had new variations on a daily basis. We even got to choose specific dishes that we had enjoyed earlier in the week, even though not on the menu. The house itself is very old, and slightly quirky as a result, but a good example of how to make the most of an old building. Rooms were comfortable (and definitely non-standard) and the shower was excellent; fresh milk was provided for tea-making, fresh fruit and confectionery - and of course a complimentary carafe of sherry.

Very much worth the high marks it appears to have already received!

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on the first floor, and at the rear - better 'atmosphere' and south-facing.

We stayed here for one night and got a good rate on a late booking. We were met by the very friendly and helpful owner abs shown to our room.
The room we had was very clean and well equipped with good quality toiletries and tea/coffee. There is even complimentary sherry. The bathroom is well appointed and the shower was lovely and hot. The negatives to the room are that the walls of room 6 are very thin so we could hear everything in the adjoining rooms. Also there is no air con so
I can imagine it'd get very hot wheb the weather is good. The wifi didn't work and there is no vegetarian option on the menu. The chef did make something fresh for me however which was good quality. For us the biggest downside is that you're some distance from any other restaurants or pubs so not an ideal location if wanting to eat elsewhere. If this is what you want though it's ideal

We stopped off for afternoon tea on our way to Penzance and were greeted warmly, good conversation and an excellent cup of tea and coffe. The room was warm and cosy, The toilets were very clean with single towels not paper or hand driers its the little things that go a long way.

We only stayed one night - we were attending a local wedding - but what a great and relaxing stay!. The owners' attention to detail was 100%. We had a 'welcome' decanter of sherry in the room and the tea and coffee making facilities were just perfect - a cafetiere, decent ground coffee bags and the offer of fresh milk if UHT did not appeal. We were offered, and accepted, a lift to the wedding venue. The room/ensuite were spotless and well appointed. Breakfast, often the benchmark of a good hotel, was perfect. Natually a good english breakfast plus smaller options and fresh croisants etc on all tables. If only all hotels were like this!

That is what this hotel has been for me!
I have been staying here since January during the week whilst working in the area.
(Jan 2012 to July 2012)
In this area there is nowhere else I would want to stay as there is nowhere better.
Over that period I have stayed in most of the rooms and found them all excellent.
Now the food!
I love food and have been educated by a chef wife, so I do know a little about food.
The food here is delicious, excellent, well presented, plentiful and gives me great pleasure!

Room Tip: Room one is the best, but I prefer rooms 6 or 7

Well we had the 4 poster bridal suite for the first nights stay, what a lovely room and the bathroom was a delight. Clean and comfortable, the sherry was lovely and the fresh milk is always a must with me.
The second night we had room 6 which was a lot smaller but again very comfortable.

We ate in the restaurant the first night, whilst the food was good I didn't think it had that super quality, no complaints but just not memorable. I would happily stay again.
