I have visited Junior Poon's Restaurant many times over the last 8 years and always had good food and great service. It is situated on Hill Road which is a lovely old shopping street up the hill from the Pier in Clevedon.
There is a great selection on the menu and the staff are very attentive. The restaurant is very comfortable and smart.
There are offers for early dining.

This is a long established restaurant with a good reputation and I had been looking forward to trying it. Unfortunately it didn’t live up to our expectations.

We started off in the wine bar downstairs as we were a little early and our table wasn’t ready. This is pleasant enough with canary yellow paintwork throughout, although being a “wine bar” there are no draught drinks available. On going back up to the restaurant, we were shown to the upstairs room, which has a little less atmosphere that downstairs perhaps, but is perfectly ok. It was empty when we got there, but soon filled up and before long it was full to capacity.

The menu looked to be a decent enough selection of the usual suspects, and we chose one of the set menu’s as I’m sure many people do when they’re in a group so they can try a bit of everything. Even the most expensive one was only £28, which compares reasonably well with Chinese restaurants in Bristol as far as I recall. There were however only three main courses dishes served, whereas perhaps usually you might expect more choice than this.

The mixed starters consisted of Chicken and Prawn dishes along with spare ribs and seaweed. The Crispy Shredded Chicken Szechuan Style was the least successful, being small, dry bits of indeterminate meat. We didn’t even know what it was when we were eating it and had to check back with the menu. The seaweed was good though. Next was an unusual dish consisting of minced chicken and vegetables served on a lettuce leaf. This didn’t have much taste to it, but there was nothing wrong with it. Next was the crispy aromatic duck which was pretty good as the dish usually is and came with a lovely sticky plum sauce.

As for the main courses, the lemon chicken was very pleasant, by the far the best dish. The beef was ok, but some of it was a little chewy and it could have been tastier. The prawns were decent, meaty specimens but the accompanying sauce was just a gloopy mess.

The staff were all pleasant enough, but some of them seemed a little inexperienced. Overall, we were quite disappointed with this. Perhaps we should have chosen individual dishes rather than the set option, but this usually works well enough. It may well of course be the best Chinese in Clevedon, but then there is little, if any, competition. Next time we will take a trip in to Bristol.

Thank you for taking the time to review us. I am sorry to hear that you did not find us favorable during your visit. We have always work very hard to provide the best for our customers. We have been serving Clevedon and surrounding areas for over 20 years attracting customers from far and wide. Some of our regulars travel from as far as Bath, Gloucester, South Wales etc to dine with us.

We have always look to improve where we failed. As taste is a very subjective sense; as we always advise that if any dish is not to your taste, just let us know and we would be more than happy to change it straight away for you. End of the day, we are here to pamper you and hopefully achieve in fulfilling your indulgence. Any good operator will aim to do just that, making good what's not right for the customer; we certainly would.

We would like to think that we are value for money in our offering. We provide full linen service throughout and we never ever rush our customers; in fact we always give breaks in between courses unless we are advised otherwise. When a table is booked, it's yours for the whole evening. Unlike other restaurant, we do not put a service charge on top at the end of the bill. It is almost impossible to compare, unless it's like for like. We all know how costly good quality ingredients are these days. We only know what we use and certainly would not compromise our reputation after trading for over 20 years by using cheaper lesser quality ingredients.

We sincerely hope to see you again and please let us know even if you would like to change any of the dish on our set menu we would be more than happy to oblige. Just ask and it will be fulfilled.

Thank you again and humbly I hope to see you again.

Decided on this venue for a last minute girls night out! Separate entrance to the restaurant down steps to the side. Lucky to found a free sofa but it was busy at 7.45 pm on a Friday evening. Wine list was extensive, not cheap, but our bottle of Chenin Blanc for £16 was good & well chilled. The bar menu has lots of choice and we had a sharing platter for £12.00 and crispy duck with pancakes for £9.00. ALL were excellent and good portion size too. A 50th birthday party of 6 girls were in the alcove next to us and they seemed to have most of the menu and like us were very impressed. Groups were coming down from the restaurant (internal stairs) for after dinner drinks so even when we left at 10pm the Wine Bar was still buzzing. Had a brilliant night for a really good price.

Ate here last night, had set menu + duck course, really good value and superb food and service. We hadn't booked because we thought as it was out of season we wouldn't need to....big mistake.. always book, they were fully booked and busy but a couple had just finished so we were allotted their table. Best Chinese I've had for years!

It's a large restaurant over 3 floors. We went as a party of 4 on a Saturday evening. It was full and as a result service was slow although still acceptable. The food was of a good standard although on the expensive side.
The surroundings / decor were good although not stunning so better value in the area is probably available.

Thank you for taking the time to review us. I am pleased to hear that you find the quality of our food is of high standard.

With regards to pricing, I would like to think that we are value for money. Dining out is a 'whole package' experience. We provide linen service throughout and never ever rush our customers. We always give break in between courses unless advised otherwise by the customers. When a table is booked, it's yours for the whole evening. It's almost impossible to compare, unless it's like for like. We all know the cost of good quality ingredients are these days. We only know what we use and would certainly not compromise our reputation which we have worked very hard for over 20 years by using cheaper lesser quality ingredients. Hence we get a lot of regulars travelling from far and wide to dine with us.

Thank you again for taking your time to write as any constructive criticism is most welcome giving us the opportunity to improve where we may be lacked. We hope to see you again and look forward to your next visit.
