My partner and I stayed at Walton park for two nights as we were attending a wedding in clevedon. The hotel it's self is pretty dated in decor but it has a certain faulty towers charm which added to the whole element of staying in a old hotel in a seaside town. It still has a functioning service lift with gated doors to everyone's delight. We were lucky enough to be in a room that faced the estuary so our view was fantastic. The room was large and clean and neatly furnished. The bathroom needed up dating it didn't match the calm cleanness of the bedroom and was a bit like walking back into the 80s! I would advise asking for a view that faces the estuary as my friends on the same floor had a room that was half the size of ours which faced the road and they were paying the same rates. Breakfast in the morning was a pretty budget fry
up hash browns, canned
tomatoes, lumpy eggs and rubbery mushrooms just perfect to satisfy a wedding hangover smothered in brown sauce and a side a cheap white bread to soak it all up. It was just what I craved but some may be disappointed. The hotel is a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde affair one side thinks it's better than it actually is and I got the feeling the hotel was probably premier about 20 years ago and hasn't really needed to shake up its game since then as it is I'm the catchment of a popular wedding venue in a boutique seaside town. Staff were friendly enough but a couple of the wedding party suffered a pretty Icy
receptionist when booking. Jekyll and Hyde again. Would recommend booking online.

We stayed for two nights while attending a wedding at the Walton Park. This was my second stay in a Best Western in a couple of weeks and both hotels were similarly outdated and tired. Regrettably the hotel has the drawbacks of an independent rather than any apparent advantages of being a non corporate, it really needs an update as neither the accommodation or the service is really up to the mark.
The food was also average at best, thankfully this is fairly easy to overcome as Clevedon has some decent restaurants within walking distance. The refurbished hotel bar lacks any real character and the gloomy corridors are lined with a mismatched selection of furniture which were piled high with linen during the day, much like a downmarket care home.
Sadly the cliff top position of the hotel is not its saving grace, as there are no public outside areas with views next to the bar or function rooms. If you want to sit outside and look at the sea you have to exit the building and walk to the garden area next to the car park. Most of the grounds are unusable and we saw several guests sitting on benches in a public garden area nearby just to enjoy the sea view that the hotel itself should be capable of delivering.
Two notable things regarding the evening part of the wedding - firstly, the barman in the tiny bar behind reception was an absolute star, he threw some impressive shapes in his tiny workspace. Secondly, the 'DJ' was using VirtualDJ to deliver a playlist and left the room quite a few times during the dancing - we got the benefit of his sound and visual gear rather than any real DJ role to make sure the music matched the audience.
We have visited Clevedon may times but this was the first time that we have needed to stay there, if that need arises again I won't be heading back to the Walton Park unless they make some radical changes.

Room Tip: If you stay here be careful to avoid rooms above or below any functions that are on and get a seaview room as otherwise why would you stay here?

Dear Corb2000

Thank you for your review and constructive comments and please accept our apologises for not exceeding your expectations on this occasion.

The hotel is currently undergoing an extensive refurbishment program and the newly appointed Terrace Bar, Lounge and Bistro along with the new menu has been extremely well received by hotel guests and local residents alike. The refurbishment will continue to all areas of the hotel and when complete I can assure you that whilst maintaining the original grandeur and character of our period property the fresh contemporary furnishings, lighting and internal aesthetics will only enhance the overall experience of our guests.

Your comments regarding an outdoor area have already been addressed with the addition of an elevated external terrace in the very near future. This will offer our guests the opportunity to sit and enjoy the magnificent views whilst relaxing with a drink or dish from the new menu. As you mention, our gardens (as with most gardens can only be accessed by exiting the building) offer an alternative vantage point in addition to the bar, restaurant and lounges to enjoy the wonderful views out across the water.

We do hope that you will consider a return visit so that you can experience the hotel and facilities following the refurbishment, as we would like the opportunity to meet with you in person and give a tour of the completed project. We will be only too pleased to assist you with a future reservation and should you require this please contact the hotel directly and personally assist you or answer any questions you may have.

Best regards

As with the other reviews this hotel has good staff, the service is good, and the food was good but in certain parts it is very tired indeed.

We were there for a family party and there was a big wedding on also, and they seemingly coped with these 2 large events very well.

If I was staying there as a treat I may be disappointed but for an event it did the trick.

Check your room us not above any of the functions. Room 209 was, and I had to get a friend to let my partner sleep in their room as it was so noisy from the party downstairs.

Would I go back, not just to stay, but would I book it again for a do.... Probably.

So how do they move forward, it's all about the money ...... It needs some investment simple as.

Room Tip: Check where the functions re being held and avoid these rooms. Go up as high as possible.

We'd be happy to stay here again partly as it is so convenient for us visiting family, and the staff were very friendly and the room was good value. But it's a long time since the foyer hall tiles and the stair and corridor carpets were renewed; the place looks a bit tired. The room was OK overnight though one bed was a bit soft. Getting the wi-fi to work was a huge battle as it kept hanging up, though at least it is free. Breakfast was reasonable, though the coffee was a bit sharp and strong, and mushrooms and softer scrambled egg would have been nice. A huge plus point - the lovely sea view if you are on that side of the hotel. 50-50 chance, obviously. It was disappointingly misty the morning we were there, but you can't have everything.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the sea have a lovely view but you might have to pay more

I stayed in this hotel last week with my daughter as we were visiting family. It is a lovely "old-fashioned" hotel ! Our room was on the first floor facing the road but was quiet all the same. it was a big room and bathroom and both very clean and newly decorated. The staff were very polite and helpful and always with a smile for you. The breakfast was good and you could look out over the water while eating, very relaxing! Will definately be staying here again soon. Thankyou!

Room Tip: Next time I think we'll ask for a room with views over the estuary.
