“Reasonable place but small improvements would help”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2012

We stayed for a week over Christmas when we were in the UK visiting family. The hotel is very conveniently located for Clevedon and it's surrounds. The staff were fantastic and looked after us very well. The food in the pub was traditional pub food and didn't, disappoint although breakfast might have benefited from a bit less greasy.

Two disappointments - firstly, for GBP70 a night I would have expected a higher quality mattress. I was very frustrated by the feel of the springs digging into to me all night. Not very comfortable but should be an easy fix for the hotel. Also there was a very strange green glow of the fire safety system keeping the room light all night - we had to use wrapping paper to cover the ceiling light. I have stayed in many hotels and never seen anything like that before.

Overall a reasonable place to stay that if the owner took care of the above two points it would be really good for a pub B&B.

This is all you could want from a pub B&B - clean, warm, comfortable rooms (ours was very spacious and had a wonderful view from the first floor out over the seafront and pier), good beers on tap, and excellent pub grub & breakfast! The owners were attentive, polite and welcoming.
The only very small inconvenience was that the rooms weren't accessible from inside the pub. They were adjacent, but you had to walk outside and around the side of the car park to get to them - you could get a bit damp after dinner if it was raining, but then again you would do anyway if you chose to eat elsewhere in town.
Clevedon is a very pleasant town with impressive architecture, a stunning pier, really nice shops, pubs and restaurants, and good scope for taking long walks along the rocky coastline - and it's not overrun with tourists either, which makes it all the more pleasant!
We'll certainly have no hesitation in going back to both the pub and to Clevedon, perhaps in the summer next time, however it's perfect for an autumn or winter getaway!

Room Tip: Ask for the top room at the front.

I've eaten here twice, introduced to the pub by a local. They have good real ales - Old Speckled Hen is very good - and a good pub menu.

On this occasion I was with a group of friends and we had a table in an alcove at the top of the stairs with a sea view overlooking the pier. The food was delicious. There is seating outside on the balcony with sea views.

This was a weekend and it was crowded so need to book.

Highly recommended.

Excellent locaton, right on the front. Fabulous views from the resturant and balcony. Our room had no view but it didn't really matter as we only changed and slept there. Shame the resturant closed at 8.30 on sunday - we were looking forward to another nice meal with a view.
Breakfast was good ( had cerial and cooked ).
This is a very popular place in the summer so book early and don't expect to get in the car park if you are late back.

Room Tip: If you want a room with a view book early and pay extra for the suit

My husband and myself have just come back from Clevedon after staying in the Moon & Sixpence. We had room 1 which is a room that caters for disabled people and it was a very nice room. The bathroom was very spacious and the shower was huge. The room was very clean and well stocked with tea & coffee. The staff are friendly and helpful and the breakfasts were large and tasty. We would not hesitate to stay here again as it's the best place that we have stayed in in Clevedon. Give it a try you wont be disapointed.

Ended up here by mistake - turned out to be a good move! In a good location, beautiful view, friendly staff, good food. The room didn't have much of a view, but was right next door to the pub which had a wonder view...and who hangs in the room? Was a great location to explore several different directions. We enjoyed our two nights here immensely.

Stayed for 2 nights in June on business. The room was clean, comfortable, newfittings & with 2 windows very airy, with direct views overlooking the sea. The staff are very friendly & always available for help. The location is opposite the pier right on the sea front. Breakfast & evening meals are good & reasonable cost. I believe that they have only 6 rooms & are usually booked for business during the week. Will I return. Sure I will on my next business trip to the South West
