“You get what you pay for”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2013 via mobile

Had a team meeting here and all decided to eat.

2 for 1 seems a great offer but you have to accept you are not going to get a la Carte quality.

All very average but nice enough but don't go and then moan because remember you get what you pay for.

I want to start this by saying I really do not like giving a bad review on anything , but have felt this neccessary to stop other diners having the same experience that my husband and I have had this weekend. On Friday evening we decided to go for a quick evening meal here as it is local and has got the 2 for one deals on which we found to be economical. We arrived to find the car park virtually empty which is always a good sign! When we entered the premesis we found the specials board to have changed from being hand written quite readable to being printed on white paper with really tiny writing above head height. We both have good eyesight but could hardly read this without craning our necks for ages! We went to sit at a table for two in the corner around from the bar and had very poor lighting. One of the bulbs had gone. We sat for at least half an hour before we had to call over one of the young waitresses who took our order and came back and said that it would be about 15 minutes wait. We did not have a problem here but then found we were having to wait for an hour!!!! We had already had a glass of wine each where we had asked for a large glass it was half the measure..We finally got to the point where there were several families who were sitting down and being served the starters before us and the starters from one other table had alreay been sent back and it was at least half an hour before they were served with HOT starters again.. this was not even our Meal so at the point where 3 satff mingled around the table behind us dealing with another complaint we decided it was time to leave!.We went to cancel the order to be given a bill of £8.50 for 2 glasses of Wine and no It is NOT the RITZ!!! We asked for the managers details and the girl said he was in Tenerife and we got a MARSTONS PUBS CARD.. To cut a long story short we were both extremely ill from the Wine all weekend and can only assume that the amount of sulphates in the wine were bordering on poison! We have been so ill all weekend and have only just managed to come to work today. we used to go to this pub before the new take over and we shall seriosly recommend that we and all our friends and family who frequented this pub do not go here again! They have lost a lot of good business. i am going to write to Marstons and do not want to be insulted by being offered vouchers here but just a warning to the company should suffice on how shoddy this has become. We cannot even give them 1 rating here.

Room Tip: Just not to go here at all

Bedroom, TV and lighting good. Plenty of parking. Corner shower unit a bit on the small size so a bit of a squeeze but good water pressure, nice bedding and towels. Bathroom lighting not working but otherwise couldn't fault the room.
Good breakfast, although a little slow in service and cheap sausages-however for the price of the room I wasn't expecting gourmet sausages. In all value for money service and rooms.

Nice looking and clean. Pleasant staff trying their hardest. Unfortunately let down by poor quality food and lack of training. They have a two for one deal, cheapest main meal free but still works out at poor value. The pulled pork enchiladas in tex mex sauce topped with monteray jack cheese and side salad (£10.60), turn out to be two wraps filled with a sweet glutenous red sauce, no onions no peppers no chilli and only two tiny strips of pulled pork covered with a glutenous white sauce with no flavour of cheese, with ten tiny potato wedges and a very small teacup size iceburg salad with one quarter of tomato. The 8oz sirloin steak (£12.95) arrived with only some under cooked chips and big peas plusvery small side order of gluey peppercorn sauce (£1.40) When we asked for the inclusive onion rings they arrived quickly but were added as an extra to the bill. The wine that we ordered arrived in a dirty (greasy) glass with some sort of brown matter on the rim and was definately a short measure. The staff were stressed, though the restaurant was not very full, and lacked training. simple things like when you bring drinks to the table you take away the empties, not knowing the menu and ringing orders to the wrong table. They were very good at dealing with the complaints, got the impression they are used to them, but they did remain pleasant at all times, though it didn't take much to relise they were not enjoying their jobs. Toilets were clean apart from toilet roll on the floor.

Accommodation; Spotless, flat tv with 44 chanels, hairdryer, tea and coffee maker in bedroom, with plenty of tea, coffees, buiscuits, topped up daily.

En-suite spotless, lovely fluffy towels.

Restaurant; Delicious meals, varied menu, to suit everyone, very pleasant staff.
Downside for us, they did run out of steaks dishes (beef) very early on the Sat; evening, when we quiried this, was told they were buisier than usual, so it could be just a one off.

Very convinient for m5 motorway, with plenty of free parking'

I can definately reccommend, clean, comfortable, friendly accommodation.
Thanks for a lovely stay, we will be back
The meals were excellent value for money 2-4-1

Room Tip: We were in room 01,very quiet

Decided to eat here after reading reviews. We live in the town but had not bothered before as had heard mixed reviews. The food was excellent, hot and tasty - plenty of choice to be had. The staff were really friendly and happy to help. Some meals were not available but staff were able to make suggestions for similar meals and profusely apologised for any unavailability.
We went in at approx 5.30pm and left at 7pm when tables were full and people waiting to be seated. It would be sensible to book to avoid disappointment.
On the whole good food at very reasonable prices - will definitely visit again.
