“Good for the money”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

Bedroom, TV and lighting good. Plenty of parking. Corner shower unit a bit on the small size so a bit of a squeeze but good water pressure, nice bedding and towels. Bathroom lighting not working but otherwise couldn't fault the room.
Good breakfast, although a little slow in service and cheap sausages-however for the price of the room I wasn't expecting gourmet sausages. In all value for money service and rooms.

Nice looking and clean. Pleasant staff trying their hardest. Unfortunately let down by poor quality food and lack of training. They have a two for one deal, cheapest main meal free but still works out at poor value. The pulled pork enchiladas in tex mex sauce topped with monteray jack cheese and side salad (£10.60), turn out to be two wraps filled with a sweet glutenous red sauce, no onions no peppers no chilli and only two tiny strips of pulled pork covered with a glutenous white sauce with no flavour of cheese, with ten tiny potato wedges and a very small teacup size iceburg salad with one quarter of tomato. The 8oz sirloin steak (£12.95) arrived with only some under cooked chips and big peas plusvery small side order of gluey peppercorn sauce (£1.40) When we asked for the inclusive onion rings they arrived quickly but were added as an extra to the bill. The wine that we ordered arrived in a dirty (greasy) glass with some sort of brown matter on the rim and was definately a short measure. The staff were stressed, though the restaurant was not very full, and lacked training. simple things like when you bring drinks to the table you take away the empties, not knowing the menu and ringing orders to the wrong table. They were very good at dealing with the complaints, got the impression they are used to them, but they did remain pleasant at all times, though it didn't take much to relise they were not enjoying their jobs. Toilets were clean apart from toilet roll on the floor.

Accommodation; Spotless, flat tv with 44 chanels, hairdryer, tea and coffee maker in bedroom, with plenty of tea, coffees, buiscuits, topped up daily.

En-suite spotless, lovely fluffy towels.

Restaurant; Delicious meals, varied menu, to suit everyone, very pleasant staff.
Downside for us, they did run out of steaks dishes (beef) very early on the Sat; evening, when we quiried this, was told they were buisier than usual, so it could be just a one off.

Very convinient for m5 motorway, with plenty of free parking'

I can definately reccommend, clean, comfortable, friendly accommodation.
Thanks for a lovely stay, we will be back
The meals were excellent value for money 2-4-1

Room Tip: We were in room 01,very quiet

Decided to eat here after reading reviews. We live in the town but had not bothered before as had heard mixed reviews. The food was excellent, hot and tasty - plenty of choice to be had. The staff were really friendly and happy to help. Some meals were not available but staff were able to make suggestions for similar meals and profusely apologised for any unavailability.
We went in at approx 5.30pm and left at 7pm when tables were full and people waiting to be seated. It would be sensible to book to avoid disappointment.
On the whole good food at very reasonable prices - will definitely visit again.

We went to the admirals table for a meal and found it a good experience.
My steak was cooked to perfection and all the other food was good as well.
My only criticism was the Stilton and pepper sauce which was very salty and watery.
They run a two for one daily which sounds good but when a salad is nearly a tenner and a burger can be as much as £12.95 you can see how that's possible.
Overall I would say it was a good lunchtime experience and I would return.
How they would cope on a busy evening is yet to be seen.

Staying over on business, we chose this hotel because it was close to our intended destination the following morning.

Check-in at the bar/reception was easy enough and didn't involve having to make a up-front payment, which is unusual for a pub chain and a welcome change -meaning that it was easy to charge food and drinks to the room bills without difficulty.

As there were three of us travelling, we had three rooms, all of decent enough size and pretty similar in appearance and size, though one had a bath as well as a shower (not mine).

The bed itself was comfortable enough but the pillows were hard and for this reason I found it difficult to get to sleep. It also meant that I woke up around an hour earlier than planned, but that could have been due to the noise from traffic, which was noticeable from around 6:00 am, with the windows firmly closed.

The bathroom was clean and uncluttered, but the shower cubicle is in need of some maintenance, as the tile grouting and silicone sealant is mouldy.

The shower itself was a surprise since it looks pretty insignificant, but the water pressure and power of the water was unbelievably good.

It was a pity therefore, that the shower was blocked, leading to the shower tray filling up very quickly and draining very slowly.

There is free wi-if in the rooms and no password is required - just the way it should be and more hotels should follow suit.

The tea and coffee provision in the room wasn't what your could describe as generous, but I always bring my own anyway, just in case, so it was no hardship.

The evening meal was typical of a pub chain, but all three of us enjoyed our meal - served up in identical sized portions by friendly and efficient staff who were happy to help.

Breakfast was included in our room rate which wasn't particularly cheap. The was plenty of breakfast choice and the food was pretty decent, my only issue being withe milk provided with tea and coffee - being the small, nasty UHT things. Surely it's not too much trouble to provide fresh milk?

All in all, a fairly decent stay, but not exceptional. Certainly ok for a business stopover.

Room Tip: Room 4 has a bath with shower above, but is road facing. Rooms 1&2 have shower cubicles and slig...
