If you want to be surrounded by natural beauty this is the place. The environment is second to none and the hotel is every bit as good. The service we experience time after time never disappoints. The staff are friendly but courteous and professional, the standards are high , the food is delicious and the accommodation is superb. The lake provides good fishing but we go for the walking. A magnificent experience.

Nothing was too much trouble for the friendly & attentive staff.
The bedroom was clean comfortable with plenty of heat if required. The en-suite bathroom was also clean with plenty of soft towells.I am particuarly fussy about what I bath or shower in but there was no problem here.
The hotel is situated in a spectacular setting & if you like fishing or walking you couldn't ask for a better place.I wanted peace & quiet and to relax which is not a problem as the lounge is very comfortable and warm.
During my stay I had adequate food.Breakfast set me up for the day with something to suite all tastes.A nice afternoon cup of tea closely followed by dinner to round off the day was just what I required. The dinner menu looked good at face value but after several nights without change it became rather repetitive and disappointing - there is only so much vine tomato soup you can take!

Over the past few years the quality of this hotel has been declining and a flow of "managers" have come and gone. I predict the current one will go the same.

My family has been going to this hotel for almost 13 years but now enough is enough as the new consortium owners in South Wales and the new general manager have taken this once great hotel to the absolute bottom!!

My family will NEVER go to this hotel again.

The management want to take as much as possible and give little in exchange. For example the hotel is located in a spectacular area but that is all that is left. It is a climbing, walking, sailing sporting area and you need to experience their "breakfast" to believe it! Hearty it is not and they major on the "1" system - one egg, one sausage, one ...... you get the idea. This hotel actually states for breakfast you get a "whole tomato" - how is it possble to link the word "whole" and "tomato" in one sentence without laughing. They have tried to make it appear you are getting a substantial breakfast by using small plates - do they think their customers do not notice? Their breakfast table of additional foods is almost non-existent and pitiful. By the way - I did not get a tomato as it would appear they did not cook enough and thought I would not notice!! Did they care - "no" .

MEAT - consider well. My son and I were treated to fillet and rib eye steak in the evening. Having asked for it to be cooked "medium" what we were given was beyond belief. Dry - stiff and strangely coloured! I believe the quality of their meat was questionable and this according to the general manager was prepared by their new chef featured on their web site. My advice - avoid, you will be disappointed.

General Manager - This guy feels so self-important that he decided to take a family room to satisfy his own living arrangements (room 7) which limits the number of family rooms available in the hotel. Room 6 avoid - bed is lumpy and uncomfortable and the room temperature (hot) is beyond belief!

The great sadness is that there are a number of long established staff who still work there and must feel embarrassed at the changes (hey - we all have to work and earn).
They try to compensate by giving good personal service.

SUMMARY - great location but this is not enough if you want to relax and "chill". We are sad that our link has not been severed after so many years. Clients are cows to be milked and that is not nice. Don't be tempted by the fabulous location and setting you will regret it because that is as good as it gets. You have been warned.

We have just got back from a fantastic 3 nights at this hotel. Very friendly staff a spotless and ample sized room. amazing scenery. Food was wonderful and to a very high standard. Everything you need for a relaxing break. Will definitely be going back and certainly recommend it if you are looking for a quite break in spectacular countryside.

The location is excellent. But the food is even better it is equal to Michelin star restaurant quality /presentation. We paid £115 for B&B and evening meal which is amazing value. The new chief is a well kept secret at the moment but I'm sure word will soon spread.
Our room was in the boat house which had a lake view, it could have been a little compact for some but you don't need to spend any length of time there as they have a lovely lounge with lake views to relax in. Also in better weather an outside terrace/garden.
