Reviewed February 10, 2014

We were only at the B&B for one night and booked it very last minute. Because of this I think we missed out a little on some of the details that the others have mentioned. The welcome was lovely, warm Welsh cakes a real treat as the weather was awful, plenty of hot drinks available to make in the room, cookies etc. Our room (Blyton?), now I've read the other reviews and looked at the Facebook page, is the smallest and although immaculately clean is a little cramped.(interestingly there are no photos of it on the Facebook page) The biggest problem is the en-suite. The door doesn't open fully as it is stopped by the bottom of the bed and the en-suite itself is tiny. All the toiletries and towels and bathrobes were lovely as described but we had to take the bathrobes off the back of the en-suite door to give us more room!! I would say this room is definitely a one nighter.
The B&B is dog friendly, but - dogs are not allowed in the dining room for breakfast, which can be an issue if you have an anxious dog in a strange environment. We put ours in the car while having our breakfast, car park is secure and quiet so this isn't a problem in the cooler weather.
The famous brioche rolls had run out - so we didn't get to try them but breakfast was great, the granola a treat.
I don't want this review to seem entirely critical, but always feel that truthfulness is best, especially as the new owners haven't been there long. I would definitely like to stay again, and try an evening meal, but in a bigger room!

Room Tip: Blyton is very compact and looks out on to the road.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review us and please don't worry about sounding critical, you don't at all and actually we really appreciate honest feedback as we are always working to improve what we offer and reviews like this really help.

I can't think of anything you missed out on due to coming last minute (we get a lot of last minute bookings so we are pretty prepared for them) but if we did forget something I can only sincerely apologise.

Unfortunately there isn't much we can do about the size of Blyton. The room is next on our list for refurbishment but sadly we can't make it bigger. It's hard to know what to say really, we are honest online about it being a small room with a small en suite and we charge less for it than all the other rooms in acknowledgement of that fact but we don't want to be too negative about it because everyone who has stayed in it has said what a lovely room it is. Many of the reviews on this site are from people who stayed in Blyton. I suppose it's just personal preference. You are right about it being more suited for a short stay though, we do encourage anyone booking longer stays to upgrade to a bigger room as it would become a bit cramped after a few days.

Finally, dogs in the dining room! We are really sorry if this spoiled your experience, we didn't have a specific policy about this as no one has asked us before but personally we didn't think it was a good idea. After we read this review we asked all our Facebook followers what their thoughts were and the vast majority said they wouldn't like dogs to be allowed in the dining room, even the people who would be bringing dogs. So we have decided to make this an officially policy but as you quite rightly pointed out, if we say we are dog friendly people may assume that dogs can go anywhere so we will make our policy clear on our website and also add it to the information we send out with our booking confirmations
.
So, once again, thank you for your review, as you can see it's been very helpful for us and will hopefully benefit future guests.
Best wishes
Sara

We've just returned from a fantastic 2 night stay at Dolffanog Fach and I can't speak highly enough of it! The whole process from booking with the super friendly Sara through to, sadly, leaving this morning was faultless. I've worked in hotels and the travel industry for the past 12 years and have been so impressed with Sara and Carl from the very beginning. Very, very friendly hosts who offer excellent quality accommodation, fantastic food and a brilliant yet unobtrusive presence. Very rare in B&B's I've found! We stayed in 'Carroll' for my 30th birthday and booked on their Celebration Package including Prosecco and chocolates on arrival (very welcome after a 2 1/2 hour trip!), dinner on both nights and breakfast both mornings as well as a lake and mountain view from the gorgeous room! There was even a hand made birthday cake waiting for me too - such a thoughtful surprise! The room was well appointed, spacious and had great views of both Tal y Llyn lake and Cadair Idris...even in the misty weather this was a beautiful view! Very comfy beds give a great nights sleep and there is a Finnish sauna to complete your relaxation. A lounge and dining room both with log burners, added a cosy intimate feel but the real star was the food (and Sara who cooked it all!) - fantastic quality which wouldn't be amiss in a restaurant, all home made down to the granola and brioche buns at breakfast through to the gorgeous desserts! Oh and there are plenty of DVD's, books and maps to borrow during your stay to keep you entertained even if the weather isn't as kind as it might be! We had a wonderful time and will definitely be returning! Thanks so much Sara & Carl.

Room Tip: We'd definitely recommend Carroll for the views but I'm sure the other 3 rooms are just as n...

Wow! Thank you so much for that amazing review. I'm actually blushing!

We are thrilled you enjoyed your stay so much and your review is especially important to us as you work in the industry and as we are very new to running a B&B it's fantastic to get such positive feedback from someone who knows about hotels!

We loved having you to stay and hope you'll come again soon.

warm cookies awaited us in our cute, clean and comfy room. we were soggy from a rainy day of hiking through the glorious nearby mountains, and we were given towels to dry off our dog and they even dried our clothes for us. we requested the dinner there and so glad we did! it was a delicious 3 course meal and nothing short of restaurant quality. breakfast came with the room and was equally amazing! they've got current dvd's, books and games for enjoying the evening by the fire in the sitting room. thanks sara and carl! it's our pleasure to give credit where credit is due!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review. We really appreciate it, especially when the feedback is so good!
We are really glad you enjoyed your stay in "Blyton" and it was lovely to meet you both and your beautiful dog and cat. Our first feline guest!
Thank you for your comments about the food, Serving evening meals was the one thing we were really worried about when we bought the B&B and still, after 6 months of positive feedback about the meals I still heave a huge sigh of relief when people say they have enjoyed them.
Many thanks once again and we hope to see you all again soon.

Just returned from a two night break from what only can be described as, a relaxing haven. Home from Home. Sara and Carl are so lovely, friendly and welcoming. Not only did we have the most perfect breakfast, including home made granola, but were lucky enough to sample Sara's dinner menu. It would put a lot of restaurants to shame, 5* three course meals, candlelight, log burner and wine. Not your basic B & B ! Snugly bed, robes, lots of little extra make this that bit special. Thank you Sara & Carl. Will definitely be returning again soon. X

We stayed here for one night last weekend and had such a wonderful time we have booked in to go again this weekend. The hosts are very welcoming and had made fresh hot welsh cakes for when we arrived. Don't get me wrong, Sara and Carl are not the type of hosts who are in your face, just available if you need them. There is not a bad word I could say about this little piece of heaven. Really recharged the batteries and can't wait to go again tomorrow!!! There is a lovely sauna with fab views and everything is spotlessly clean. The rooms are lovely and the food is fab and very reasonably priced for the effort that goes in. She even makes her own granola!

Clean, comfortable, warm, good food, lovely lovely homemade granola at breakfast. Pretty setting, great for walking near the lake and surrounding hills including Cader Idris. Plenty of parking. Great sauna! A very friendly couple to be found in Sara and Carl. Welcoming but not intrusive. Dog friendly!! Hope to see you again in the future. We stayed here as a base for going to the Falconry Experience in Forge, Powys.

We were only there for one night, but would heartily recommend the place. Very comfortable, a warm welcome and fantastic food both in the evening (to think we very nearly missed out by saying we'd fend for ourselves!) and at breakfast.
Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer.

Simon and Liz would love to welcome you to Dolffanog Fach. Our aim is to provide the warm and friendly welcome of a traditional B&B with the standards and special touches you would expect from a boutique hotel. Unlike most B&Bs we do not "live in", we have a little cottage just next door so you don't need to feel as though you are staying in someone's home. We also have a Finnish Sauna which is just perfect after a long day's hike or cycle in our astonishingly beautiful surroundings. If you are a walker or mountain biker then we can offer you our "Boots & Bikes" Room. Secure storage for your bikes, boots, helmets and clothes and we can also offer laundry facilities. You could stay for a week and have a different breakfast every day! We really want to offer our guests value for money and put a lot of effort into the little things, the biscuits in the rooms are homemade and freshly baked, the milk is fresh and the coffee is ground and there are lots of other little touches that guests always comment on and say how much they make a difference. Children of any age are more than welcome and we also welcome dogs and they are allowed in the rooms and sitting room, we don't permit them in the dining room but you are welcome to leave them in the bedrooms while you eat. We hope you'll come and stay with us, we can promise you a friendly welcome, lovely rooms, delicious food, glorious surroundings and a truly relaxing stay. ... more   less
