Just got back from spending 2 nights at this lovely B&B to celebrate my Birthday. We were immediately won over by the view of the lake from our bed. Thank you to John for his guidance over which walk we should take up Cadair Idris. After our 6 hour trek up and down this beautiful mountain in the perfect weather it was lovely just to chill out in the bath!! Ricky - your food was amazing! We will definitely be recommending your B&B to anyone who heads over to Snowdonia for a break!

P.S Really appreciate the free drinks!

Hello Lauren, many thanks for what you have written about my food and we are so pleased that you chose to stay here to celebrate your birthday. As a present from us we were going to offer you both a session in our hot tub together with some celebratory champagne after your ascent of Cadair Idris but as you were so tired we never got the chance - so hence the free drinks instead! Thanks so much for this recommendation.
Happy birthday again from Ricky, chef and join owner.

It was a birthday treat from my wife in the most perfect location to relax and wind down for a few days. Food was amazing, service was excellent with recommendations as to where to walk according to our level and everything on site that we could possibly need. We paid extra for the hot tub which was well worth it it to relax under the stars. The view from Craig Goch room was fascinating and the room itself was a good size with separate toilet and huge bathroom. We highly recommend this accommodation and would love to stay here again, many thanks to John and Ricky for everything they did for us.

Room Tip: Craig Goch room is big with the perfect view over the lake.

Thanks so much for choosing The Old Rectory on the lake as the place to celebrate your birthday and we are so pleased that you had such a good time with us. Many guests also say they really enjoy the hot tub under the stars - preferably with a glass of champagne in hand - and the evenings of late have been just ideal for that. Indeed we are thinking of starting a challenge to see who can get the champagne cork into the lake!
Happy birthday, John and Ricky - joint owners.

We certainly experience many a weather when we visit The Old Rectory on the lake! This time we arrived in a storm and on the day we left it was almost spring like ...... what a contrast! Mercifully though nothing really changes at The Old Rectory itself, although since we stayed there was been a makeover which is very pleasing. Ricky's food gets better and better and as always John had many an idea of what to do in the area. Must not leave it so long next time.

Bill, it was great to welcome you all back for the start of our 2014 season and as you say you certainly were here for yet more dramatic weathers! But that's Wales for you - utterly, excitingly unpredictable! Thanks for the very kind comments about us and for taking the time to post some great photos from your stay - we are just amazed how many other reviewers have done exactly that and incredibly we now have well over five hundred on here.
Our best wishes to you all down in Southampton, John and Ricky - joint owners.

Almost wanted to put a bad review on here so that we could keep this as our own little haven, but can't. Everything about our stay here was amazing, from the welcome from John when we first arrived through to the wave off as we left. The rooms were especially comfortable with those special touches that made the stay something to remember. Can't say enough about Ricky's food, we have eaten in some very good restaurants in the past and this was easily on a par, the highlight being the local fillet steak and the key lime pie!! The location of the Rectory is beyond special, to eat your breakfast with the backdrop of the lake and the mountains is something we will definitely be going back to see again, and again, and again!! Thanks to John and Ricky for letting us share your home and making our trip extra special.

Room Tip: Our family used the 2 upstairs rooms with the views of the lake which were extra special, and it can...

It was our pleasure to have you all to stay with us in our home. We do realise just how lucky we are with our incredible location - on the quiet side of the lake which gets the sun for most of the day and with breathtaking views to die for! I have passed on your comments regarding his cooking and especially the key lime pie to Ricky. We look forward to welcoming you again in the future.
Kind regards, John and Ricky.

Ricky is an extremely talented Chef, the food is carefully sourced, thoughtfully planned and excellently executed and John is an utterly charming host. A stylishly decorated room, beautiful toiletries, fluffy towels, comfy beds, stunning views and all you need in the room. The wine list is very reasonable and varied, the breakfast has a wide choice and nothing is too much trouble- thank you for a lovely stay.

Room Tip: We stayed in the little house which was great.

We have never been to The Old Rectory on the lake for Valentine's Day so it was great that John and Ricky could fit us in for what was the start of their 2014 season. When we arrived there were flowers and chocolates on our bed which was a real nice touch. As usual Ricky's food stole our hearts and the Welsh steak from Bala we had on the first night was the best we have ever had! I also tried their Welsh whiskey and just loved it! Ricky has changed his breakfast menu slightly and I really enjoyed his Eggs Benedict which I had two mornings on the run. As we left we booked in for the Old Rectory's bonfire celebrations but I am sure we will be back before that. Oh, and congratulations to you both, for getting another Trip Advisor award of excellence - for the third year on the run!

Room Tip: As I have always said in my previous reviews, all rooms are excellent!

You still hold The Old Rectory on the lake award for the most visits to us Ann and we so really appreciate you coming back to stay with us whatever the time of the year. It was our pleasure that we were able to accommodate you for Valentine's Day and I will tell our butcher, Hayden, that you really enjoyed the steak. We look forward to welcoming you back here in November - that's unless you cannot keep away until then!
All our very best, John and Ricky.

The setting for the Old Rectory by the Lake is very fine and the restaurant and 4 rooms look out over the lake to a sheer glacial valley side beyond. John and Rick's hospitality is excellent and the food - featuring local Welsh produce - is memorable. Altogether a very welcoming and charming Guest House.
