Thanks for coming to stay with us from The Wirral and it was good to meet you both. I am so pleased that you enjoyed your night with us and your kind comments about my food has made my day!
Best wishes, Ricky - chef and joint owner.
We love to visit Wales and in particular the fabulous beaches and countryside around Aberdyfi and were so pleased to find this excellent accommodation. It has a wonderful tranquil position with excellent views across the valley and the lake. We stayed for two days in the Rectory Retreat which is separate from the main house (but only by a few paces) and it suited us perfectly with our dogs. The Retreat is beautifully fitted out with an oh-so-comfortable bed and even has a fully fitted kitchenette. We enjoyed the friendliness and great hospitality shown by our hosts Ricky and John with breakfast and dinner being served in the dining room with its great views. The food is gorgeous - filling breakfasts and delicious 4-course dinners cooked up so well by Ricky. Thank you both! We enjoyed our stay immensely and look forward to our next visit!
We had donated this weekend's accommodation to a friend to celebrate his 50th birthday - so many thanks for being so generous when you bid for it in his auction which raised a considerable sum for a childrens' charity. It was great to meet you both and your kind remarks about your tranquil stay in The Rectory Retreat are really appreciated. I have passed on your appreciative comments about his food and cooking to chef Ricky.
Best wishes, John - joint owner, The Old Rectory on the lake, Tal-y-llyn.
Whilst travelling around the area some months ago, we chanced upon The Old Rectory on the Lake and my husband said he would perhaps like to spend a couple of nights there. As a birthday surprise, I booked two nights in the Craig Goch room last weekend and couldn't have made a better decision!
We were greeted by Ricky who made us feel very welcome and after showing us to the room we enjoyed the complementary sherry looking at the fabulous view over the lake and mountains. We dined with them on Saturday night and met John for the first time who was a great host. Whilst having drinks before dinner, we enjoyed the video of the area and hotel shot from a helicopter.
Ricky's cooking for both dinner and breakfast was outstanding, thank you John and Ricky we hope to be back very soon!
I am so pleased that the birthday surprise went down well and it was great to meet you both. Thanks so much for taking the time and effort of leaving this review and saying such glowing things about my cooking. We hope to welcome you to our home again.
Best wishes, Ricky, chef and joint owner of The Old Rectory on the lake, Tal-y-llyn.
I've been looking forward to having the opportunity of staying at the Old Rectory for years and it did not disappoint! John & Ricky made us very welcome, the food was truly excellent and our three day stay in their lovely tranquil home slipped by in no time at all. It would have been very easy just to gaze out of our bedroom window for three days at the fabulous view and the changing light - and not to have gone anywhere else at all!
My only reservation would be that by adding to the totally deserved praise from other reviewers for this lovely place and its consummate hosts, it will become even more popular and harder for us to book again!
Hello to you both and we were so pleased that we finally managed to accommodate you for the three days!!! Thanks for these very kind comments which are truly appreciated and you are so right the views here are ever changing! We look forward to welcoming you into our home again.
Best wishes, John and Ricky - joint owners.
My husband found this beautiful B&B on the internet and we decided it would be the perfect place for us to spend a few relaxing days after all the stress of our wedding. We had originally planned to arrive on the Sunday and go home on Wednesday, but there will so much to do the morning after the wedding that we called to ask if they were able to push our stay back to the Monday and leave on the Thursday. Ricky had also just broken his foot and seeing as he would be unable to cook for us on the Sunday we thought it may be easier all round.
We had booked the Craig Goch room and it was beautiful! Everything was clean and well presented and after the long drive we were looking forward to a soak in the fabulous bath. The views were beyond incredible and they were right outside our bedroom window! The bed was so comfortable, we both said we had the best nights sleep we've had in a long time. We felt like we were being welcomed into a home, not just a place we were staying for a few nights. There were no problems with the internet access, but we were quite pleased to not have signal on our phones!
John suggested an easy route for a walk the next morning and there was plenty to choose from at breakfast. They even made us a packed lunch to take on our walk - and there was no skimping on the filling in our sandwiches, they were full to burst!
When we came down to dinner we watched the film with the other guests. It was lovely to see the lake in all the different seasons and to hear bits of local information. It was also nice to meet the other guests and it certainly didn't feel uncomfortable as other reviews have suggested. The four course dinner choice was impressive, I'm not much of an eater, but there were no problems with just choosing to eat only a main if that was all you wanted. The lamb was incredible, cooked to perfection, we both couldn't believe how amazing it was.
Unfortunately when we got up on the Wednesday morning we were informed there had been a mistake and that we would not be able to stay until the Thursday. John offered to call around the other local B&B's and find somewhere for us at his expense, but we decided we didn't want to stay anywhere else and would just go home instead. John and Ricky were so distraught that they had cut short our honeymoon that they refused to accept any payment from us whatsoever for any part of our stay. I tried to pay for at least something but he would not accept it.
We fully plan on returning to this beautiful spot again and we will stay for a lot longer as there are so many things we didn't get round to doing. We have been recommending The Old Rectory to everyone we meet!!
What can we say after reading this kind detailed review but many, many thanks for posting it and your comments are so appreciated. It was so good to meet you both and I will never forget the day I had to tell such a personable couple that their honeymoon was to be curtailed! Just to make it worse the people who had booked your room for that night did not even turn up! It was probably the worse day of our 'bed and breakfast' life!! Despite all this we are amazed that you want to return to stay with us and we look forward to that greatly. In other news it appears Ricky's small toe bone has set and he no longer needs to wear that special boot so with luck he should be running again in a couple of months. Thanks again for your understanding and we hope married life continues to be blissful.
Kindest regards from John and Ricky - joint owners.
Living in rural wales, its sometimes difficult to holiday here!
Problem solved with this gorgeous hotel. The rooms are gorgeous, the breakfast amazing and the owners are so friendly and helpful. Beds are so comfy, and all those little things that annoy us in other places were non existent here. They have really thought about everything, and its like a home away from home.
This felt like a proper retreat, we only stayed for a weekend but will definitely return here and if you are looking for a comfortable, stylish, up market b&b then look no further. This really has something for everyone in a stunning location.
Looking forward to returning soon x
What can we say but thanks so much for posting this review about your weekend with us and are well flattered that we are the first place you have left a comment about in Wales! I am so pleased that you enjoyed your time here at Tal-y-llyn and it would be our pleasure to welcome you back to our home in the future.
Kind regards, Ricky - chef and joint owner.
