“Such a disappointment...”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2012 via mobile

Arranged a quick romantic get away on the morning of the 12th Sept, found this hotel on a late bookings website at a discount rate - despite the discount the reviews on the hotel website were portraying the hotel to be a fantastic retreat and the pictures looked amazing.

On arrival we were immediately disappointed as the front of the hotel looked like something out of a college campus and the actual entrance was certainly nothing to write home about, very bland and looked very unwelcoming. The entrance door was actually closed and was a struggle to open it. On entering the hotel it got a little bit better, it was clear hat this was a building with history and had a old feel to it. It was difficult to find the reception room but got there after 5 minutes looking.

The staff did not really seem that interested and not evening a "welcome", just a "yes". The checkin was rushed, despite nobody else waiting to be checked in with very little information given about the hotel of facilities on offer at the hotel. Not only did we feel unwelcomed but felt that we had 'disturbed' the reception staff.

The two females certainly did not give the right impression and were not, in my opinion, suitably dressed. I have seen better uniforms and presentation in some lost cost budget hotels.

After been given extremely quick instructions on where the room was located we managed to find it after a little looking. The room was standard and nothing spectacular as promised or pictured on the website. I actually felt that we had been missold the room by the website.

The room was dated and in desperate need for a refresh - there are actual cracks in the wall and poly-filler where walls have been damaged, wouldn't be so bad but it needs to be finished off. The bed appeared to be nice but when sat on it with my partner it creaked badly which disturbed us both throughout the night.

The bathroom was a nice surprise considering but I expected a lot more for the money we paid. All in all I would not recommend this hotel to anyone unless you want to be ripped off.

Stayed 4 nights in a Classic Room which was really large with a lovely big bathroom. Room was in annex to side of hotel which could only be accessed outside but this was good as there were several parties going on during our stay and we weren't disturbed by them at all. Only complaint would be that we were obviously near some staff quarters who got up early and banged doors in the corridor. Reception were friendly and helpful, happy to supply jugs of fresh milk on request. Breakfast was great. Swimming pool was brilliant; one of the best we have had at a hotel.

Room Tip: We asked for a quiet room.

My wife and I were attending a Christening locally and chose this hotel because it was far enough from the V Festival not to be affected.. Large room with views over the extensive grounds, big bathroom and the breakfast was excellent. Staff, very friendly and helpful. A lot of giggleing went on with the female staff because there was a Pop group staying there (I'd never heard of them ?) Only downside, a taxi turned up at 6am, parked under our open window for half an hour, with his engine running and the car radio blasting out! Reception were very apologetic and promised to call the taxi firm to complain.

Room Tip: Can only speak for room 33 which was great.

This hotel from a distance looks like a palace. Surrounded with land boasting to have great facilities. But! On closer inspection you find reception staff in some cases are arrogant unwelcoming not helpful at all. Not forth coming with telling you anything useful about the place. Basic accommodation not perfectly clean. .....if I were the hotel inspector I would teach them a thing or do.

Ps don't go when a wedding on unless it's your own wedding of course but then I can only imagine the stay won't be great..

Looked on the website to book and it looked fantastic and perfect venue for a relaxing break......On arrival it couldn't have been worse, by far the worst hotel I have stayed in, the only one I've felt compelled to complain about.

A wedding was being held at the hotel, so when checking in we had to wait for the receptionists to finish chatting etc. We were rudley spoken too, complete lack of info and no help offered for our luggage. Signage for our room was poor so it turned out to be a difficult task carrying luggage and navigating ridiculous ammounts of doors.

So we get to our classic room which looked pleasent on the internet...the reality a tiny room, which looked dirty, uncared for and frankly something I would expect at a cheap hotel. We had paid over £130 for 1 night. To add there were hairs in the sink, reject towels and reject linen.

So off my partner went to reception, the manager said she was too busy to deal with this as there was a wedding taking place, no offer to rectify issues and her manager was not in the country for us to escalate our issues to. The receptionist tutted at the mention of hairs in the sink (Maybe she hears this so often) we had to tell her that the hairs were not the colour of our hair!!

We asked for a full refund so we could leave (we had only been there 20mins) The manager told us we wouldnt get another hotel in the area anyway. But we were so disgusted with the standard of cleanliness and customer service that we took that risk as if we had not got another hotel we were so unhappy with Haughton Hall we would prefer to drive 4 hours home.

Our risked paid off, we got a far better quality hotel for a much better price! Proof haughton hall overcharges for its appaling accomodation and service. Needless to say we won't return to a hotel that did not want to resolve any issues or listen to its customer!

We had our daughters wedding at Haughton Hall. We stayed there the wedding eve and wedding day. check in was quick and simple, which we had done on line, and made a couple of changes to the number of rooms, cots, doubles/twins etc, but everything was as we had planned.
We enjoyed relaxing in the spacious bar area, where we were able to meet with other guests as they arrived for the following day. Having travelled from home we decided to eat at the hotel for our evening meal which was very good value for money and tasty. As mother of the bride I had hair appointments so had to leave the hotel before breakfast had started, but we were able to arrange cerials, toast and coffee which was more than enough.
The wedding reception was fantastic, the staff were very approachable and sorted out any issues quickly (not that there was anything major). The wedding breakfast meal was geourgous, portions were fantastic and again very good value for money. The hotel staff supported us in getting the speaches underway at the appropriate time and did everything and more to help the day go smoothly.
The bedrooms were reasonably charged, although some of the guests who had not said they were with the wedding party got a cheaper rate. It was comfortable, clean, and really functional. The grounds were kept well.
Everything needed was there, and with the staff being very efficient made the stay really good.
Thank you
