Stayed at Haughton hall in October with my wife and 13month old child. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised by the building on the on site swimming pool, sauna, steam room... We arrived at about 4pm and saw a banner advertising "special food menu" from 4:30pm - 6:30pm so thought great, settle in the room and get some food sorted for our child.

We went to check in and there was one lady checking people in, there was only myself and one other person checking in. Once the other guest had checked in the receptionist turned to me and huffed in a not happy manner and said "I dont know why everyone checks in at the same time?" I looked around puzzled as there was now only me? Nevermind.... Anyway, checked in and then asked where our room was, now before arriving we did say we had a baby and pram etc, our room was up the stairs, along the corridor, down some more stairs and then all the way at the end!!! When my wife asked if there was any help around, she was met with a short sharp "NO!" of which the lady then sat back down and carried on reading her book! We got to the room of which seemed quite nice, big bathroom, quite a big bedroom, coffee tea facilities, flat screen TV with not a very good quality picture or system. I then thought I could hear music playing so thought, we must be above the bar area? Nope they had put us right above the kitchen and they were playing their radio quite loud and heard banging of pots and pans etc, and even had the extract vent going past outside our room so just heard a constant whirring noise - NOT GOOD when you trying to get your baby to sleep!!!

Anyway went downstairs at around 5pm to get ourselves and baby some food only to be told "sorry the kitchen has said they are closed as they are cleaning the oven!" I explained they were advertising food between 4:30 -6:30pm outside and also on their menu in the bar, again, we got a very uncaring response of... "well the kitchen has said they're closed" . I didnt quite understand why they chose to clean the oven during their advertised serving times? Nonetheless we weren't happy with this at all so ended up heading into Shifnal to get some food....with a baby that was quite hungry by this time.

When we returned later on we went into the bar and had some food (at least the oven would have been clean), sandwiches which were actually quite good, I had the soup and bread roll, of which was nice but the soup was cold and I never got my breadroll..... try and find a member of staff to ask is an effort in itself !!

That evening we had some friends arrive as we had a wedding the next day at Rowton Castle in Shrewsbury (which was FANTASTIC by the way - stay there!) and we were all in the bar waiting to get served for ages - we literally had to hunt for staff to serve us, eventually getting the aforementioned moody receptionist to serve us of which she wasnt happy about at all, after all - she was busy...... reading her novel!

As the night went on and a lot of money was spent by our group in the bar, it became harder and harder to find staff to serve us at the bar, by about 10pm it was like a ghost hotel, and seemed like we were the only ones there and were left to our own devices....
Anyway – to cut a very long story short... Nice location and hotel, let down by their lack of staff & lack of care, the only nice person we met was a Scottish lady with short grey hair. Pool is quite nice but a little on the cool side, the baby pool has the same water as the main pool so too cold for babies really. Breakfast was nice in the morning, - all in all, wouldn’t stay here again.. which is a shame as they could do really well if they had to care more and update the corridors, carpets upstairs.. sorry this review is so long!

Room Tip: ask to not have the one above the kitchen.

Just come back after a two night stay at this hotel and I have to say it was lovely. The staff were very helpful, the food both on an evening in the restaurant and for breakfast was of a very high standard.
The only reason I have knocked a star off is due to the saturday night in the restaurant we were a big party and they got the bill very wrong and this took 1 hour to sort out, however the evening before when there was only 6 of us plus a toddler there were no problems.
The rooms were lovely some of our party had bigger rooms then others, powerful showers and clean towels, lots of coffee, tea and biscuits.
I was really worried after reading the negative reviews and some of the pictures but they are out of date now. Dont let them put you off, we tried to book again as we go to the Midland Game Fair but it is booked with a wedding so we are trying somewhere different but thats the only reason.

Room Tip: Ask for a twin, our friends got a king size bed and a double sofa bed, room 11 I think it was, huge.

My Family of 4 stayed overnight at Haughton Hall and found it to be a very pleasant experience. We were given two extremely nice clean and cosy rooms. The rooms were well decorated and had everything you could ask for from a modern tv to tea and coffee making facilities and excess to the internet was free.
The Staff were very helpfull and accomodating and it has lovely swimming pool and gym where we could relax while two of our party went to the v festival.
Breakfast was a variety of choice and so was the lunch and dinner. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and found it good value for money and would certainly go again and recommend it to friends.

Room Tip: We found that all rooms in this hotel would be good as no two rooms are the same.

We booked a family room, specifically for the use of a bath, we were given a double, which is not what we booked.

Room was filthy, there was a large stain on the bed linen, short hairs on the bed. Bathroom full of mould on the ceiling. We checked out straight away, we couldnt stay, it was so dirty. It is a quiet place, but the rooms need seriously updating.

It is very old fashioned, no elevator or bell boy available.

My Husband and I stopped at this hotel for one night on our anniversary. As it was a special occasion I paid a bit extra for the Manor Suite. The room was very dated and quite dark, not what you would expect from a suite in a hotel, more like a room in a very old b&b. The corridors were also very dated with wallpaper coming off the walls in places.

We were woken up at 8am by the fire alarm, we all had to evacuate the building and were left standing outside for 20 minutes, until we were told that the alarm went off due to a guest smoking in their room, we then back to our room to try and get a bit more sleep. Half an hour later the hotel thought it would be a good idea to test all the fire alarms. So a lie in was out the question.

We went downstairs for breakfast, there was no one to greet us in the restaurant so we sat at the nearest table, only to be told rudely 15 minutes later to move to a different table. After reading previous reviews i was left disappointed with the breakfast, the continental breakfast only included yogurt, cereal and fruit and not the croissants and pastries as stated in the menu and the hot food was not in a buffet style but you had to order what you wanted from the waitress, when she finally got around to coming over.

The hot breakfast, depending on what you ordered included one of everything and was cold, it tasted as though it was cooked hours before and reheated. Not good,

Overall i will not be staying at this hotel again, it really is a shame that they haven't spent any money on the place in a while because the building itself is beautiful, but it is let down by its tired and dated guest rooms and poor breakfast.

My husband and I had a overnight stay on Sat in Haughton Hall, we found it to be a lovely place for a quiet getaway with only peace and tranquillity on the menu. We found the hotel to be great value for money , the rooms were of good standard and clean . The staff were very pleasant and helpful, we had a wonderful meal served to us by Danny who went out of his way to meet our needs, a slight clich with the barman but was sorted out very quickly and efficiently by Danny for this we thank him, we were then able to enjoy the rest of our evening . We will most definately returning to Haughton Hall and will recommend it to our family and friends . Thank you for a lovely stay and great memories .

Just returned from a very relaxing and enjoyable 1 night stay at Haughton Hall. We were a little unsure what to expect as this place had some bad feedback on this website. I can say that i found this hotel very clean ,peaceful and decor sympathetic to the building and its age. I can only imagine the people who thought it was shabby did not understand historic buildings and live in 'new builds'. We spent a wonderful couple of hours in the 'free ' swimming pool which was immaculate. My partner also discovered a decent fishing lake in which he managed to net 2 carp to 5lb in 2 hours !. Dinner and breakfast was very nice .We stayed in one of the ' very large ' four poster bed rooms with a sofa bed for the toddler .
