Description: The Navigation Inn is an 18th Century canalside inn serving home made food using seasonal and ethically sourced ingredients. We offer superb real ales, and a great selection of wines and other drinks. Whether you want to enjoy a meal or just want to stop for a drink or three our dining room and bars offer relaxed and characterful spaces. We also have a canalside patio where you can enjoy al fresco dining and drinking. Dogs and children are also welcome! Our food is home made and the quality of the ingredients we use is particularly important to us. All raw meat products supplied by our catering butcher are fully traceable in origin and we insist that he sources meat that conforms to our welfare standards. Many products such as lamb, pork (including sausages and bacon) and eggs are purchased from local farms where we deal directly with the producer. All of our meat is ethically produced and wherever possible free range. (Eggs, chicken and pork are 100% free range) We will always try to buy locally and support the farming community who we value so much. We use Fish Fight guidelines to ensure that seafood is sourced from sustainable fisheries. Our menus are created using these criteria and with a firm eye on the seasonality of the ingredients. Brent and Mark have owned The Navigation for nearly 11 years and continue to strive to offer you a relaxed visit with excellent service, food and drink. They are very ably supported by Head Chef Jack who has been running the kitchen for 5 years and by Sous Chef Craig. In addition our waiters, waitresses, cleaner and kitchen assistants are all here to enhance your visit. Your security is overseen by the tireless (and occasionally vocal) presence of Belle and Sebastienne, our German Shepherds.

“Gem of a country restaurant”

Second time I've just called in for a meal in the evening, luckily England were playing football as I guess we wouldn't have had a table without booking
My dad just likes their traditional bangers and mash, we had some choices of their game, excellent food, not too fussy but very well cooked and presented
Very comfortable and casual atmosphere, a well thought out but traditional interior, plenty of room.
Only later found out that England had won, didn't spoil the evening though!

“Very good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2013

Nice room, pleasant staff, diverse menu (including attractive vegetarian options the night I went). I was there for a relaxed supper (not vegetarian! pork belly etc.) which was good. The rice pudding (with vanilla cream, honey, and sultanas) was criminally excellent: after eating it I felt I could roll home, if not quite all the way to the sea.

Touring round country lane and found the Navigation Inn, What a fine, very quaint. Food cooked to order I had mac cheese & garlic bread, husband had lovely steak, super jumbo chips. No room for dessert.

“Really disappointing”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 9, 2013

Sad to say this is one of the worst meals either of us has had in a pub. The greeting was less than warm and 5 minutes after we'd sat down, we were told that our table was taken (there'd been no indication on the table and actually no-one had arrived by the time we left) and we'd have to move. There were empty tables the same size a few feet away, but we were still told to move.

The music was a loud 1980s mix and too intrusive for a quiet Wednesday lunchtime. We ordered sandwiches - mine was a steak sandwich. I wasn't asked how I'd like it cooked and had to leave a big chunk of it as it was solid gristle. The bagged salad garnish was either old or had been put in the freezer as about half of it was already black slime on the plate - either no-one looked at what they were putting on the plate or they didn't care.

We eat in pubs a fair bit and I think this must be the worst value sandwich I've had. To cap it all, when I was given a knife and fork wrapped in a paper serviette and unrolled it, the cutlery was full of animal hair.

Poor value, poor service. We'll not be coming here again.

“Menu du jour :)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 5, 2013

We have been here a few times and last night ordered the menu du jour (three courses for £13.95) Great food for amazing value. The surroundings are comfortable and the staff are very polite and friendly. We certainly will be returning!
