We had a superb four nights in this hotel. Our stay was all that we expected. The staff without exception were really pleasant and welcoming. The gardens were beautiful and the countryside really lovely and we found plenty to do and see. The food was excellent; I'm sure we both put on pounds !!.

We took two of our four dogs to stay at Pen y Dyffryn and were greeted with tea and hot scones on the little terrace outside our bedroom when we arrived. From then on the experience continued to be absolutely delightful. The room was beautifully decorated in clear relaxing pale green and cream and the bed was wonderfully comfortable. There was lots of piping hot water for a bath after our journey and cosy waffle dressing gowns to lounge about in afterwards. The dogs loved sitting out on the terrace and watching the passers by. Each terrace is provided with a moveable wooden hurdle to keep dogs in. Our dogs are workng animals and used to keeping close to us and behaving pretty well. It might be that other dogs would just jump over the hurdles. The gardens where we went for a walk before dinner were really lovely. Dinner was excellent with five courses. Helpings were rather small for two hungry farmers, though! The staff were conscientious and discreet. I cannot think of a nicer hotel to visit for a holiday with your dogs, or without for that matter.

We spent three nights at this hotel earlier this month - our second visit, having spent three nights there in May last year . It was just as we remembered it - excellent in every respect.
We received a very warm welcome, were quickly checked-in and offered help with our luggage. We had requested and were allocated the same room as last year - a comfortable, spacious and well appointed room in the adjoining Coach House. As other reviewers have noted access to these four rooms is perhaps not easy for those with limited mobilty - access being by steep stone stairs or across a lawn; however, rooms are available in the main hotel. For us a room in the adjoining Coach House is ideal - away from the main building, quiet, peaceful, with a private walled patio and with stunning views over the surrounding countryside.
Each evening we met friends (also staying in the hotel) for pre-dinner drinks - promptly and efficiently served in the welcoming, comfortable and nicely furnished lounge adjacent to the dining room. The restaurant, in our opinion, certainly merits the two AA rosettes it has been awarded. The menu changes daily and all the meals that we have had have been well cooked, well presented and served efficiently and professionally. The wine list is more than adequate for us and represents good value for money.
The owners and staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful - always willing to answer our myriad of questions regarding places of interest, walks, local pubs, etc., etc.
On our visits to the UK, Pen-Y-Dyffryn Country Hotel is our favourite place for a few days of total rest and relaxation. We are already looking forward to our next visit. We would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending it to others but, selfishly perhaps, hope that it does not get too well known.

Friendly, cosy, very comfortable. Food is great, location is beautiful, scenery stunning.
Lots of wonderful walks in forest and moorland, hills and valleys straight from hotel front door. Throw the car keys away! The staff are delightful helpful and cheerful. It is the perfect place for our holiday, and we have lost count of the number of our visits.

This was our second visit, this time just for one night. The food is very good indeed, imaginative without being silly, and the location lovely. All the staff were friendly, warm and helpful. The hotel is special in a quiet informal way, and without being grand.

Food delicious. Service good. Friendly and welcoming. Nice room - offered an upgrade on arrival. Shame about the cold weather. Will go back when it is warmer to sit in the lovely grounds and admire the scenic views.

Stayed on recommendation of son and daughter-in-law, who made it through the snows in January to be the only guests! Rather busier when we stayed on Mothering Sunday but no less impressed by level of service and accommodation and the food was out of this world! The hotel is beautifully furnished and the setting is delightful. Highly recommended.
