Rose Cottage is a perfect holiday cottage. It is spotless and well equipped with all facilities and a good base for sight seeing. We enjoyed it so much that we have booked again for this year.
Rose Cottage, Maesbrook is ideally located with a very private, rural feel. First impressions were pleasing, although the kitchen a little dated. Overall cleanliness of the cottage was first rate however a lack of basics in respect of toilet rolls, washing up and cleaning utensils. The cottage is advertised as with 'open fire/wood burner'. This is not true. The wood burner is of a 'closed' variety and consequently gives off very little heat directly into the room. The purpose of the wood burner is to heat hot water and eventually, the radiators (with the aid of an electric pump). Logs are provided, which is just as well because you will need plenty of them. The wood burner requires almost constant attention in order to maintain a modicum of heat through the radiators. It is inadvisable to leave the property empty for any length of time, unless of course you are happy to return to a freezing cottage. Going to bed with the expectancy of waking up in a warm environment is quite out of the question. To add to matters, is the addition of a new extension to the rear of the property. With summer in mind, I would imagine, a fabulous bonus with views over the open countryside but in the middle of high winter, its open plan design backing onto the living area is totally inappropriate and only adds further to the chill factor. We managed one night of a seven night booking. Probably a lovely cottage in the warmer months but to be respectfully avoided in winter.
