Great quality food and real ale, lovely location next to the canal

Bar area is too small so don't eat in there or you'll have people queueing for drinks standing over you as you eat!

“Lovely atmosphere shame it's not open all day every day!”
Reviewed July 5, 2014

We were on a canal boat and visited this pub for lunch. It is a great canal stopping point but beware they are not open Monday lunch times which is surprising since we would have called there on the way down the canal. However we did call there on the way back on a Thursday. I think they are missing business by not opening all day every day, at least in the summer. Last orders for food are also at 2.30 pm at the pub closed at 4 pm. Having said all this we had an excellent lunch with great friendly service. The pub is surprisingly big with plenty of both interior and external seating. It also has has a lovely conservatory.

“Always excellent food.”
Reviewed July 1, 2014

Found this place one afternoon after moving to the area. It's situated right on the canal and is a mix of very old pub with new restaurant at the back. Service is good, food made to order so not quick but worth the wait. Food always tasty, good portion sizes - we have been back lots of times now and food has always been excellent and not overpriced. Worth a visit!

Went for dinner near the end of our trip, good food, well cooked, and well appreciated whilst traveling on the Llangollen Canal.

“Grumpy owner!”
Reviewed May 30, 2014

The 6 of us arrived a couple of days ago from a narrowboat. The bar area was full and as we had the dog and couldn't use the restaurant were offered the conservatory. This was fine but we were the only customers in there so it was cold and lacking in atmosphere. My son's friend and my son, aged 14 and studying music spotted the old fashioned style organ (which was plugged in with music on the stand) and went over to play whereupon a grey pony tailed man promptly appeared from a table just through in the restaurant and shouted that it wasn't for public use. His manner was appalling and rather than encouraging the youngsters to play music or just saying 'be careful lads' they felt they'd been told off unnecessarily. They are 14 not 4! I originally thought he was a grumpy customer but there were photos of him in a yacht in the pub so thinking he is the owner. Not good for business in this day and age but this place will survive on the fact that the Llangollen canal is very sparse with eating establishments and if you're trapped on a boat have few choices though if you can avoid please do!
