“Disappointed”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 18, 2013

After recommendations in the various canal guides we moored overnight (on their moorings right next to back entrance to grounds. Strange interior - only a few seats in bar and restaurant area lacked atmosphere. The food was not value for money given its price. Fish and chips poor and my Lamb Henry disappointing. Wouldn't return.

“Bit surprised to see some of these reviews”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2013

We took a narrow boat out of Ellesmere and this was our first and also our last mooring place on a fantastic holiday. I suppose the prices were a bit high but we had a lovely meal, the staff very friendly, the landlord a bit eccentric but ok, and the pub itself is really pretty and they have done a lovely job of the garden areas. Really don't understand the negative reviews, things are expensive these days and this did'nt seem to be too far out and the quality was good. I loved it to be honest but I might be biased because this pub was part of an excellent holiday where the weather was beatiful and the whole experience out of this world.

“Canalside pub”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 7, 2013

Thought we would stop here on our boating trip as not much other choice. First impressions were not good, smell of vinegar hits you as you enter the pub door. The beer also smelt of vinegar or was a bit cloudy and flat, I guess the emphasis is on food. The landlord has a strange sense of humour. Looked at the menu and decided it was too expensive, wish we had stopped elsewhere, I would say the Poachers Pocket is a better choice.

“A Cut Above”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 7, 2013

Friendly attentive service in this charming pub and restaurant. Canal side location makes it popular with boaters, but there’s a large car park and food worth driving a good way for.

Bar meals (and garden seating in season) compliment a large full restaurant area. Menu changes with availability of fresh ingredients: try Lamb Henry, slow cooked local Welsh lamb in a marrow-rich sauce. A sound wine list, children’s menu and a range of real beers complete the picture.

The place is named after an eccentric local squire for whom 'Last Orders' were called in 1838 - you can see one of his letters framed near the entrance.

At the time of our visit (September 2013) the inn is for sale - let’s hope the new owners keep up the standard.

“Fabulous food, great atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2013

Hi we regularly stop off at the Jack Mytton when passing on our boat, the food is plentiful and very well cooked, the menu varied, the environment well presented and clean and the staff friendly and attentive.

Can't fault them, do drop in and see them!
