“Hostile and unwelcoming staff.”
Reviewed October 30, 2011

Moored at the Jack Mytton on the first night of our canal boating holiday with my husband, son and mother. From the outside the restaurant looks very appealing. We attempted to enter at about 7pm and had to try 3 sets of doors before we found an open one. The place is huge inside - full of empty tables. We were grumbled at by someone who I presume works there for coming in by the wrong doors. We asked a waitress for a table and she said they were fully booked. My husband asked where all the customers were and she said they had a party of 17 people arriving soon. As many as that!! A man who appeared to be the chef came past huffing and puffing, tutting at us like we were a real hardship to him and snapped "go and wait in the bar". Another group of 4 people came in from the canal to receive the same charming welcome as we had. We were not in a hurry and were very pleasant with the staff and did not deserve such rude treatment. We wouldn,t have minded waiting in the bar even for an hour while the chef struggled to cook for the 17 people but after the way we were spoken to decided against it and ate on the boat instead. Luckily this pub is the only one in its area and so must get plenty of customers despite the recession - otherwise it might have welcomed our money and that of the other canal holiday people. Good luck to it..

“Superb Restaurant and Pub”
Reviewed October 12, 2011

My Partner and I dine at the Jack Mytton at least twice monthly.

We do so because it is the best Pub and Restaurant in the local area.

The Bar staff, Waiting staff, Landlord and his wife are all very friendly, attentive and welcoming.

The Chef is superb.

The Menu contains a wide selection of delicious meals, presented in a beautiful way.

We particularly recommend the Lamb Henry, the Steak and ale pie plus a recent delicious addition to the Menu - Chicken with black pudding (gorgeous).

The Bar presents a great selection of 4 well kept, and regularly changing, real ales.

These normally include examples from the local Stonehouse Brewery range, plus a selection from other Mirobreweries.

An earlier posting refers to damage caused to a car left overnight in the car park at the premises.

This is a totally unrepresentative incident in respect of both the Jack Mytton itself (which is located in a small, quiet and peaceful Village) and also its clientele.

The Jack Mytton is a place to enjoy and savour.

“Family Friendly Pub, Great Value, Super Service, Fresh Food, Good Local Ales.”
Reviewed October 11, 2011

Lovely pub that we have visited on several occasions, well priced with a good, safe atmosphere.
The selection of local ales are brilliant, as is the food which also caters for children of all ages.
Even the landlord’s jokes are good; but only after a few pints of Shropshire Lad!

“Excellent food, great atmosphere”

A great find on our recent canal boat short break. First class food, very good value, quirky but very friendly owners, cannot fault it. So good we went back two nights later!
