“lovely weekend”
Reviewed August 6, 2013

Stayed here under a living social deal and it was fabulous. Accommodation was clean and had a decent sized room in the Forge with a little table we could use outside in the courtyard. Tasting menu was very good quality and tasty. Dining room needs a little more atmosphere as felt you had to whisper. Great little village too.

“Disappointing”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

We have a rule, which sadly we broke, that good food costs either £5 or £50, and anything in between will disappoint. Sadly we were right. The portions were less han generous, the prices were high ( over £6 for sticky toffee pudding ? £10 for a burger ? ), the vegetable tartlet was a slice of quiche, my chicken caesar salad was sadly lacking in croutons, but big in limp lettuce. Friendly staff, but we would have been better off at the pub down the street.

“what a revelation - nice hotel, excellent food, beautiful village/town”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

8 of us were going to Hexham for a weekend, but on a recommendation, stayed here instead and we certainly weren't disappointed. We had negotiated DBB for same price as BB and our double room was based in a converted outhouse of the hotel. It was a lovely room, very spacious.
A sumptuous breakfast of the usual choices, fruit juice, cereal, full english, plenty of toast, tea/coffee or continental, all waitress served.
The evening meals were beautifully cooked and served. I had sea bass one night and duck the next and can recommend both. There is an extensive wine list and a couple of local real ales. The village/town of Much Wenlock is lovely. I printed off a town walk which is partly through the town and partly outside, past the field which is used for the historical Wenlock Olympics, up to a disused windmill tower and along a disused railway line then back to the town past the priory ruins.
A really lovely place. We have planned a return next month for lunch and a day out.

“Appauling customer service”
Reviewed March 19, 2013

After several enjoyable meals at the Raven during 2012, my partner and I arrived one Saturday afternoon in March for a bar meal. After finally being served by a member of staff who clearly wished we were not there to add to her burden and being charged £6.50 for a pint of bitter and a grapefruit juice, we sat down to view the bar menus, many of which were on the bar in easy access of customers. A loud din from a neighbouring room meant that a party of some description was in full swing, hence the bar staff's reluctance to focus her attention on me! Once decisions were made regarding our choice of lunch I was then informed in an abrupt manner that bar meals were no longer being served. It was 13.15. Simply a bad service and cleary happy to take my money for drinks without warning me lunch was no longer being served. Sadly, I will not return, plenty of much better establishments in Shropshire.

“Very good restaurant”
Reviewed March 11, 2013

The quality of the food, cooking and presentation was excellent, served in very pleasant surroundings with lots of old beams, log fires and very efficient friendly staff. The restaurant standard was very much at the top end of the bracket for this type of hotel. No issues with parking as they have their own car park at the rear of the hotel. Pricing is modest for the quality and standard of food served.
