“lovely ruins with a great audio tour, slightly marred by sales pitch”

Wenlock Priory is beautiful, and we really enjoyed wandering around the ruins in the snow. The woman working in the shop/entrance was also very friendly and helpful. I did think that the audio tour included in the entry price was good, with the extra information and reasonably detailed history it provided adding to the experience.
The only slight complaint I would have is that when I left, I felt a little like the last few minutes had been a sales pitch! The audio tour finished with a list of ways you could spend money in Wenlock Priory - which was particularly ironic given the tale it told of a religious house brought to ruin by a creeping capitalist obsession with wealth.

A very peaceful setting ! Run by English Heritage with informative commentary! This is a huge ruin and its size can be truly appreciated through listening to the audio commentary.

No visit to Much Wenlock can be complete without stepping back into the 12th Century and doing the walk around tour of the Priory. Doing so on a sunny day is definitely recommended and do take advantage of the audio tour (but you can wander about without it!) Such a photo op is this priory and its setting is most picturesque and serene. Enjoy!

The abbey ruins of Wenlock Priory are set in the beautiful little village of Much Wenlock in Shropshire.
As you walk around the ruins, you can see a beautifully coved washing fountain which the monks used prior to eating.
There is a very well kept topiary garden which is set against the beautiful old infirmary building, this is now a private residence.
The ruins do not take long to get around and a audio guide is available from reception for you to listen to which along with the guide boards, provide information about the abbey and what life was previously like.
The loveliest part of the abbey was the walls of the chapter house, the walls were beautifully carved and the carved columns could still be seen.
These ruins are lovely to look around and worth a visit, and whilst your there it is worth taking a look around Much Wenlock itself with its lovely historic buildings and tranquil setting.
