“not average pub grub”
Reviewed April 29, 2012

I can only think the poorer reviews were from people looking for standard "2 for 1" pub grub of the lasagna and chips type. We've been a couple of times and whilst the fixed price menu offers a small selection the food is excellent but it is not the standard pub choices. If you like good food you'll find something on the menu to enjoy. With their current children 'eat for free' offer the whole meals have been very good valu,e although be warned the children's menu is smaller portions of the adult fare and not chicken nuggets. Our children (9 and 10) like that but perhaps some parents might not.

If you want cheap chicken nuggets and a lasagna go to the Bandon Arms in Bridgnorth if you want something more interesting and a lot better quality try here!

PS on both occasions the service we received has been fine and they even kept the kitchen open for us. I also heard them go out of their way to produce something a customer wanted that was not on their menu.

Stopped here by chance today (22-4-2012) for a Sunday lunch on the way back from Worcester. The service was very poor considering that at 2pm the place was not that full. The waitress didn’t bring any cutlery or serviette to the table so when the food came (eventually!) we couldn’t start to eat. Although the Acton makes great play of the fact that extra ‘rosties’ and veg are readily available the waitress never revisited our table, even to ask if everything was Ok, so there was no chance for us to take advantage of this even if we wanted to. My beef was average but wife’s pork was inedible and at £9.95 per meal we refused to pay for hers. The chef offered free desert and coffee but it wasn’t worth the risk. We won’t be returning here again in a hurry. Lesson learnt.

We regularly eat here with our young children and their friends. The food is always good, the outdoor area is great for the kids and the staff are friendly and helpful too.

There's ample parking, facilities are clean, there's a large restaurant area separate to the bar and garden and they accept card payment. If you can get here when there's some entertainment laid on, even better.

I can't fault it, it's our first choice if we have a few hours to kill in the evening.

On friday nights, we go to the acton arms for our evening meal, with our twin boys. The food is great and we end up eating food outside with our other group of friends and their children.

Great restaurant, staff are quick and always top up my custard to the brim of my bowl (I'm a fussy one)

Heartily recommended for families and couples with friends

Having seen mixed reviews, we decided it was time to try the Acton Arms for ourselves, so went in for Sunday lunch.
All in all we were well pleased to have visited - the food was of good quality, served in good time. In particular my husband commented on how flavourful the roast beef was, and the bread and butter pudding for pudding was beautiful. Pricewise it was also reasonable.
The staff were generally young, but attentive - and no, I can't remember either the last time I was asked so often if everything was OK :)
The only thing I would change would have been the table, which was next to the door to the toilets, and therefore on a bit of a thoroughfare. Nevertheless, I'm sure we'll be back

After reading Mr Wood's review about his alleged experience, we nearly cancelled our reservation for the following Friday lunch. I'm so glad that we did not. The staff were welcoming and attentive, the service was brisk, even though the restaurant was busy. One of our company's arrival was delayed, owing to an emergency, but they made sure that he was looked after promptly.
All five of our party enjoyed their choices of meals, and although we sat chatting over coffee until the other diners had left, we were left in peace. We shall certainly return.

we decided to visit the Acton Arms for a spot of lunch today.. we had been for drinks before but never food.
we were seated in the nice and re-decorated dining area, the staff were friendly and prompt to deliver menu's and take drink orders. The menu was varied with choice but could do with a few more options on the" lite bites" as this was a bit limited.
we ordered the food/drinks- firstly the waiter returned to say the coffee machine had just broke so we would need to order another option of drink.. my mother didn't want anything else so we asked for a regular coffee made with a kettle. The coffee was promptly brought over but was cold!!
we thought considering all else had been so prompt that the food would shortly follow.. we waited, and waited and waited.. we waited almost 25 mins for the food-which we ordered- soup and mushrooms on toast so nothing that should take much more than 10 min to ten out.. we feel the food delivery really let it all down, we let the coffee machine problem slip as that was no1s fault but we hope, as we would visit again because the food was very nice, that next time it wouldnt take half as long- especially at lunch when people may only have limited time to dine.
