“FABULOUS WEEKEND”
Reviewed July 26, 2009

My husband and I decided to stay at Hopton House to celebrate our 23rd Anniversary and we were not disappointed. The Paddock room was wonderful, bathroom fantastic and the bed was absolutely superb, so comfortable!

Karen made us feel very welcome, the breakfasts were excellent. When we booked the weekend back in January, Karen provided evening meals but this is no longer the case, but as we had booked so early in the year, Karen most graciously cooked our meal on the Friday evening. I have to say we were both impressed with the dinner and after eating at the Baron of Beef pub in Bucknell on the Saturday evening, we have to say that Karen's dinner far exceeded that of the Baron of Beef.

We paid a visit to Clun following our eight mile walk in the morning, a must to walk off the extra pounds you put on whilst staying at this wonderful B & B. We decided to try The Sun Inn for a pint. The ale we sampled was ok and we did not stay for lunch but the pub lacked atmosphere and looked decidedly shabby. We also paid a quick visit to the White Horse, atmosphere ok but the ladies toilets were awful, one to avoid I think.

All in all we loved our stay at this wonderful B & B, Karen works so hard to ensure everyone's stay is special and I hope she continues as she is one in a million!

Stayed at Hopton House for two nights in April, thanks to Sawday/Tropicana offer. It is everything other reviewers have said and more. We stayed in the Paddock Room which is large and comfortable with a huge bathroom and a balcony overlooking the garden area and the hills beyond. We watched the dogs, the chickens and lots of wild birds from here.
Everything in the room was first rate and the cake left by Karen for us to help ourselves just added to the experience.
Breakfast was outstanding, from the home made smoothies to home made hot cross buns and everything in between. The only problem is deciding when to stop eating.
Karen is a superb hostess and you quickly feel at ease and at home; more of a family friend than a paying guest- I even took the dogs for a walk!
Unreservedly recommended for an exceptional experience.

We've had a fantastic stay - the bed was so comfy and the food delicious. You've exceeded our expectations with the fabulous sticky ginger cake and the chocolate eggs for an Easter surprise! Truly brilliant!

This was our 4th visit and I still consider it the best place I have ever stayed in. This time we had the new barn room which was absolutely stunning! The decor was beautiful, the room huge and a bathroom that was a pleasure to use. Everything is so comfortable, the bed, bedding, chairs to relax in, extra blankets proper cups, tea pot, real coffee and a super water heater instead of a slow kettle.
The new residents lounge is oak framed and the large windows have views over the Shopshire hills, or you can watch the chickens sitting on the bird table with the robin! Karen who runs Hopton House will treat you like a friend while making sure you have everything to make your stay complete. Ludlow and the surrounding area is a great place to visit as there is always something to see and do at anytime of the year and Hopton House make a good place and a lovely place to return to after a tiring day out!

My wife and I chose this B & B to stay in for my birthday. Although it looked good from the website it exceeded all expectations.
The lady who runs the B & B clearly takes a great deal of care with presentation and making guests comfortable.
Our room (which was in an annexe to the main building) was enormous and the amazingly comfortable bed big enough for 4 people at least! We now have the same duvet and mattress topper on our own bed at home.
We chose an excellent pub to dine in from information provided in the folder in the room in Bishop's Castle.
We even had a decanter of sherry provided to warm us up after a wonderful walk through snow up on the Long Mynd.
All of the above was nothing compared to the excellent breakfasts provided in the main house, with good coffee, yummy scrambled eggs from the nearby hens and lovely recently baked muffins.
All in all, a great place to enjoy some peace and quiet set in beautiful pastoral countryside and perfect for hill walking.

My husband and I decided to book a weekend break after a particularly stressful time at work. We booked Hopton House because we could take our scottie dog and also because of its good reviews on Trip Advisor.

We throughly enjoyed our weekend away and would recommend Hopton House for the quality of the rooms, food and the welcome received.

  • Liked — the quality of the rooms, the breakfast and the welcome
  • Disliked — nothing
