My sister and stayed in the tastefully decorated and very comfortable Granary Room.

We were greeted by a wonderful teddy bear who was sat on a furry water bottle in the middle of the massive bed. The bedroom was large with plenty of storage space and seating. The bathroom was fantastic with a contemporary large bath (photo attached) and a powerful shower which you didn’t want to get out of. The room was spacious and spotless and also contained a comprehensive folder giving advice on the room and local area.

When we booked we ordered a salmon platter from Karen which was ready waiting for us in the in-room silent (very useful) fridge. Of course we also had some of Karen’s delicious shortbread but I warn you - don’t start eating it as you won’t be able to stop! There was also a homemade cake, a tray containing a variety of tea/coffee, together with wine glasses and a cork screw.

We really enjoyed the breakfast which was served in a light airy room with beautiful views and lots of entertainment provided by the resident chickens. I would thoroughly recommend visiting Karen so that you can enjoy her fantastic hospitality and the beautiful Shropshire countryside. It is definitely worth visiting nearby Ludlow during your stay.

Room Tip: The best room to stay if you have a dog is the Barn room as this had a wooden floor and is well set...

Thank you for your review.
I'm very glad to hear your sister and you enjoyed the Granary Room and the teddy bear ( handcrafted in Shropshire )
I'm sorry if the shortbread tempted you but I'm sure I heard somewhere that calories on holiday don't count .....
Take Care

Hopton house is located in the very underrated but incredibly picturesque, less well travelled county of Shropshire. We arrived at the house using the great directions from Karen without which you wouldn't know you were arriving at a BnB. The views of the countryside from the garden and house are really stunning and the view from our balcony, the Paddock room, was like a scene from 'Out of Africa'. However instead of seeing the 'big 5' we saw some free range friesians, rare breed chickens and the owner's dogs, Mitzi and Murphy. Our room was massive and included all the fripperies of proper luxury, including freshly baked shortbread, robes and an outsize shower and bath. The bed was super kingsize and facilitated a listless sleep and I wasn't in the least bit put off when I awoke to hear a pin drop onto the floor at the other side of the room. The breakfast was really fresh and cooked to order with home made bread and lots of local organic produce including some of their own eggs. Whilst there we visited the nearby town of Ludlow where I've never seen so much Tudor architecture.

We stayed in the Granary Room, absolutely beautiful! A fresh baked cake and shortbread were waiting to welcome us and some of the best coffee we have had. The room was beautiful, the bathroom devine, everything had been thought of, from gorgeous toiletries to spare toothbrushes. The breakfast was excellent, Karen made the most delicious mushrooms on toast and a smoothie to die for. We would definately recommend any of our friends or family stay there. Karens hospitality is wonderful, no wonder she runs courses in Bed and Breakfast management, this is how a Bed and breakfast should be run!

Many thanks for such a great review.
I'm glad you enjoyed the Granary Room and all of the special little touches we provide.
The coffee is from Monsoon Estates in Stratford Upon Avon. Anne sells her coffee mail order and I recommend it to everyone!
Hope to welcome you back soon

Arrived at Hopton House and was greeted by Karen and her two dogs, Mitsi and Murphy. She showed us to our room, the Paddock Room, and how beautiful, one window facing fields of sheep and a balcony with double doors facing the hills with all the chickens in the forefront, heaven. Gorgeous bedroom, large and so was the bathroom! There was a fridge in the room which was very handy and Karen had made a very tasty lemon drizzle cake which actually goes rather nice with wine as well as a cup of tea! We visited The Lion at Leintwardine which is just down the road, a lovely pub by the river and fields. I had a Pimms so it was proper English! Back to our room and sat out on the balcony drinking a wine watching the chickens, rabbits and the dogs, words can’t explain how relaxed we were. Magical scenery. Then slept in a comfy big bed listening to the silence, we could get use to this! We woke up to the sound of birds and sheep. Had a tasty breakfast of eggs Benedict for me and omelette for Rod, whilst watching the ‘busy’ chickens and birds eating their breakfast! We also visited in Leintwardine, The Sun, which was / is a Parlour Pub, very unusual. We made sure we had a drink in the parlour even though now there is a big bar out the back. There are a lot of places of interest to visit around Hopton House so it’s in a very convenient location. We just can’t wait to go back again on our next visit to England from Australia. I just wanted to stay here forever actually. Thank you Karen for a very welcoming stay.

What a fab review - thank you!
It was lovely to welcome you from Australia - so few overseas people have heard of Shropshire that it's always a special event for us to welcome guests from other countries.
The Sun at Leintwardine is a special treat for people looking for a traditional country pub. It's one of the last parlour pubs left in the UK and is enhanced further by serving some of our best local beer.
I do hope that you enjoyed the rest of your visit to the UK and that you'll pay us another visit if you every return.

We have just returned from a three-night stay at this wonderful little gem in South Shropshire. The room we had was the Granary Room which is superbly laid out and very spacious. The king-size bed was a dream to sleep in, the breakfasts were superb and Karen's hospitality was excellent. I admit that I ate most of the lemon drizzle cake and the shortbread - but they were scrumptious! The B and B is set in an idyllic location with super views all around. All of our cares and worries seemed to drift away as we enjoyed the large wild-flower meadow garden with only the sound of the sheep in the distance, the humming of the bees, the twittering of the birds and the gentle clucking of the twenty chickens.
Thank you, Karen, for making it such an enjoyable experience.

Hello Ian and Jude
Many thanks for your review.
I'm very glad that you enjoyed the stay.
I'm particularly pleased that you enjoyed the wildflower meadow. It's nice to hear that our human guests enjoy it as much as the bees & butterflies.
We hope to see you again soon.

We have just returned from a wonderful stay in the Barn room at Hopton House, very peaceful and restorative. The Barn room is beautiful and spacious with every comfort provided, great attention to detail and lots of lovely little extras like luxury toiletries and lovely home made cake and shortbread. Also it was good to have fresh milk in the silent fridge. Breakfasts were delicious with lots of choice. As we were so lucky with the weather we enjoyed having the deck outside our room for sitting out in the sunshine when we returned from a day out. We had high hopes of our stay based on Karen's own website and the reviews on this site and it exceeded our expectations. We also loved Shropshire and would love to stay at Hopton House again. Thank you Karen for a lovely break.

Decided on a whim to take a cheeky 2 night break from work. So pleased I picked Hopton House it was just perfect. The setting is a delight, amazing views, beautiful house, gardens & an array of strutting chickens to provide entertainment.

Our room was very spacious with everything you could want & a little bit more. My wheat free diet fell at the sight of the lemon drizzle cake & jar of homemade shortbread.

Bathroom had a great shower with plenty of hot water & no need to pack a wash bag Karen's filled it with everything you might possibly need.

The bed was huge, super comfy, quite possibly the best night's sleep I've had for ages.

Breakfasts were imaginative - aga roast tomatoes with halloumi, herby mushrooms with poached eggs as well as perfect looking traditional options. My only regret was that we didn't stay long enough to eat everything on the menu.

Room Tip: Our room had a deck out front with table & chairs. perfect little sun trap.
