Had heard and read good reviews so decided to give the Bird In Hand a try. It was a cold evening but as we walked through the door hoping to be greeted by warmth - there wasn't any. We purchased drinks and sat at our table which wasn't in the restaurant where others were sat but in the bar. Had it been busy this wouldn't have been a problem but we were the only diners in the bar which was cold and became increasingly colder each time the door was opened from outside. We placed our order then sat listening to the bar staff discussing their plans for the weekend. My Mushroom Wellington arrived looking burnt and as I cut into the flakey pastry I was greeted by a hollow case with 7 button mushrooms inside, no sign of the spinage or Brie and it tasted as it looked! a small pile of salad leaves and chips for the rip off price of £13 +. As I was still very hungry we decided to try the puddings priced at 5.95, my lemon cheesecake was so thinly sliced and my husbands 'pimms' strawberries and meringue was in a wine glass and eaten in 4 spoonfuls. A very expensive evening for very poor quality food and tiny portions. Cold - we never did take our coats off, unattentive staff, all in all a very disappointing evening. We won't be returning.

We had a lovely family birthday meal here, really good food, friendly staff and atmosphere. Fabulous Welsh rugby memorabilia dotted around. We will definitely go again, in fact my in laws have been there 3 times since!

We were a largish group sitting down for evening dinner. We didn't use the sleeping accommodation.
The meals were tasty and of good value and portion size.
The bar staff and waitresses were all extremely lovely, personable and seemed to enjoy their jobs.
We would definitely be going back. I only didn't give it 5 stars as I would reserve 5 star for Michelin star quality.

Had a great evening here as part of a large party. The pub is in a great location and is rugby and Welsh themed. As my husband is a rugby fan and Welsh this worked very well!
Food was good, perhaps a bit too much cream in the sauces for me, but otherwise everyone enjoyed their starters and mains.
Good ambiance and good service.
The owner previously owned The Lamb Inn in Crawley I understand and the only reason this venue doesn't get 5 stars is due to the negative feedback some of the staff gave about The Lamb Inn. We try to support all local businesses and we felt it the feedback was in poor taste.
Otherwise we had a great evening and would return again to sample other parts of the menu.

A cousin of mine first chose this lovely place to stay for our annual cousins reunion in 2012 and we enjoyed it so much, we (14 of us) went back again last September, they made us feel so welcome.
The food is fabulous and they give a great service. The rooms are situated in a little garden next to the bar and restaurant, and are very clean and comfortable, with tea and coffee making facilities, you cant ask for more! It is fantastic value for dinner, bed and breakfast.

not too much to say, as could,nt fault it, booked in with out asking the price per night, was shocked when we got the bill, was the best value for money anywhere in the witney area & we know as we stay there a lot, in different hotels, some we thought really good , but as it was boxing night couldnt get in our favourite,s, especially as it was boxing night & we had a dog,........., food, service ,rooms..... couldn't fault it plenty of hot water, & rooms big added to our favourite now

Room Tip: we stayed in room 9, close to the car park, but all rooms are handy to it, we never heard anything...

However big your party might be, if you are organising it you want to get it right. This year I booked the Bird in the Hand Nr Hailey, Witney. It was absolutely lovely from the start. If you have not been there before it's gorgeous. Very tastefully decorated I could have moved in you just feel very comfortable from the beginning.

All the staff are welcoming, smart and attentive. We all had three courses from their Christmas Menu and the food came in abundance. Wonderful starters presented superbly full of flavour, then the mains. OMG cooked to perfection, the fresh vegetables were excellent superb value for money. It was a truly great evening and each and everyone of us are going back with friends and family. Well Done and a Very Merry Christmas to all of you at the Bird In Hand, Witney.
