I stayed at the Witney Four Pillars for one night on January 14th before a conference the following day.
I received a good and informative service at check-in.
The room was comfortable although a little on the small side. Facilities within the room were fine: tv, coffeee making facilities, trouser press, safe etc. The main problems with the room were noisy fans outside (possibly air/con for leisure facilities) which ran till 11pm and switched back on before 6am. I am not a light sleeper, but I couldn't sleep with the constant rumbling sound. The other issue was an extremely weak and pathetic shower (room was only on 1st floor).
The leisure facilities were of a good standard and open for long hours.
The breakfast was very nice and the service and facilities for our conference were also of a good standard.
Overall an OK stay but £85 a night was a bit pricey.

Problems in a nutshell....

Bed was the worst I have ever slept in and when we dug deeper we saw the centre of the bed was filled in with felt and had 2 matress protectors on.
Planes from the RAF base were audible from our room.
Towels, bathrobes, slippers, water, glasses and tea and coffee were not present in the room as specified and had to be requested from reception.
We booked a table for dinner at 8.30pm but a table was not found for us until 9pm.
At dinner we were seated in the middle of a convention by the enterance to the kitchen and had to sit through their speeches and awards ceremony. We were not made aware of this convention at any point despite having made contact with the hotel several times prior to our arrival. Each time we contacted the hotel we specified it was our anniversairy and were looking for a romantic break.
We were not served by the same waiter/waitress more than once.
The starters were overcooked and one did not match the description on the menu. One main course was over cooked and the other was cold in the middle.
When checking out we asked to see the manager to complain but were refused and told that there was not duty manager on site. We were advised to email our complaint.
The spa was nice!

Arrived here with family members on a Bank Holiday weekend for a 3 night DBB Package.. Although we were offered rooms on different floors they were soon changed (to next to each other )at our request. There was no lift but only 2 floors and help was offered with luggage .
The room was spacious, airy ,well decorated and very clean. So was the bathroom which contained complimentary toiletries (even face cloths) which were regularly replenished. There was plenty of lighting with low-energy bulbs, an iron and ironing board, professional -style hairdryer, digital TV and even a safe large enough to hold a laptop.
Leisure facilities (Gym, pool, sauna, steamroom ,jacuzzi )were free for our stay.
There was adequate, safe on-site parking at the hotel.
The hotel was re-furbished in Jan 08 and although the restaurant looked very contemporary it lacked adequate lighting so appeared rather dark.
The evening menu for 'Package' guests was rather limited and portions of starters and sweets quite small but the breakfast hot and cold buffet was excellent.
The whole staff from housekeeping ,waiters to managers were polite, friendly and courteous at all times which was really great.
As a single guest staying in a twin room I was charged an extra £15 per night........bit unfair maybe ??

All in all a very enjoyable stay in a very clean and comfortable hotel on the outskirts of a lovely town (Witney).

Stayed at the four Pillars for 3 nights. Check in ok, room ok...would describe the hotel as quaint. My room was quite big, bathroom ok, clean but shower disappointing. you had to play with lamps to get them to come on, bit strange!!

The daily room service seemed very inconsistent, there were about 7 of us and each one of us had an issue...e.g some got no towels, relenished tea coffee or toiletries.

Bar area nice, quite trendy, staff were a bit under pressure at times. Main restaurant was good.

There is a pool and small gym.

Overall just felt there was something missing....

The Four Pillars Hotel website looks exellent and the hotels very enticing. They fail to mention that the Four Pillars Hotel at Witney is only 3-star (offical Quality in Tourism rating). As such, I thought the hotel was OK. For £89, I got a decent size en-suite bedroom, a £19 allowance for dinner and a Full English Breakfast. So not bad value.

My negative comments are relatively minor but I'll share them anyway as they may be important for some readers! Parts of the hotel were being refurbished during my stay. On the first of my 2-night stay there was a faint but noticeable "rumble" of a power generator somewhere nearby. It was fairly quiet but enough to become annoying after a while. The building work also meant that parts of the hotel smelled of paint. Check first to see if any building work is still ongoing before you book!

The room itself was OK but hadn't been decorated for quite a while... cracks on the wall, stained polystyrene ceiling tiles, mould on the bathroom ceiling (yes, really!).

The restaurant menu was strange I thought. Bearing in mind that this is a 3-star hotel, the food was a little over-the-top. My "soup of the day, served with a crusty roll" was actually soup served in a very modern eliptically-shaped bowl, served with 2 slivers of sun-dried tomato bread. Similarly, instead of serving my sea bass filet with some lovely fresh veg, it came with broccoli puree and a perfectly shaped cylinder of pureed potatoes with prawns embedded in it. OK at one of the smart restaurants in Oxford but a little OTT for this type of hotel? I also made the mistake of asking for "water" instead of asking for "tap-water". Despite dining alone, I was served a 1-litre bottle of mineral water at £3.80/bottle. As I say, not much wrong with the food per se, but just unecessarily fussy. If I stayed here again, I'd probably eat from the bistro menu in the bar instead.... or go into town for a pizza!

Had a lovely stay at Witney Four Pillars, got a lesiure break weekend, this includes Bed, Breakfast and 3 course Dinner!
Well worth it. The staff were very friendly, and extremely helpfull.
Yes the hotel is being renovated, but this made no diffrence to our stay. Room was comfortable, and nice to have the seating area.

Resturant was very well presented, good choice of food for the deal we had. 3 starters, 4 mains and 3 desserts including cheese. Breakfast was self service, always good. Contentail, cearals, porridge, and full English on the hot plates. You could also have other things cooked, vegetarian sausage, kippers and poached eggs.
Staff were really nice, new what they were doing, and very attentive. Povl and Sarah were great.

Leasure facilities were good, small gym and nice size pool with jacuzzi. Took advantage of the spa treatments and had a facial, you must book this in advance, as the therapist comes to the hotel, not based there. Treatment was lovely, and the therapist herself was very friendly and good at her job.

The walk into Witney took around 10-15 mins, as was with my Mother in Law whom can only stroll. Nice walk, only a funny bit through an industral estate!!! Plenty of shops and eataries.

Will definatly go back.

After looking on here at previous reviews we decided to book this hotel for our weekend break.
It was absolutely wonderful, the staff were so helpful and made our stay even better.
I would have uploaded the pictures of our room but the room featured on the hotel's pictures was our room. It was massive, we had a 2 seater sofa, two 1 seater chairs, a coffee table, desk with chair and obviously the bed. The bathroom was very clean and well equipped with the shower over the bath. After reading the last report about the water pressure we didn't have this problem at all, in fact it was a very powerful shower. Beware of the hot water though, there is a mixer tap but anyone with small children i would be very careful.
Dressing gown's and slippers were also provided for our stay, as well as luxurious shampoo/shower gel and soap. The tea and coffee facilities were very good and we had an iron and ironing board in our room.

The leisure facilities at the hotel were good, steam, sauna, jacuzzi and pool. It was very quiet as we went over the weekend so we were the only people in there. The ladies changing rooms smelt slightly mouldy but only in the shower area.

The only thing we weren't 100% happy with was the bed (kingsize), which was quite lumpy and the sheets were rather rough, if we had stayed for a longer time it would have been an issue but for a long weekend it was fine.

I didn't see any building works however we were told that part of the dining room was blocked off. But the dining room was superb and that goes for the staff in there too.

All in all we will definitely stay here again especially with its great location.
