We stayed here for 4 nights and in general were satisfied with the accommodation and food, but thought the hotel could be significantly uplifted into the present day as regards what is now expected to be offered in really good establishments. Our room was rather poky, though the beds were comfortable and the room though faded, was clean. Some lights didn't work, and the bathroom was rather cheaply laid out. Breakfast was OK in a standard sort of way - cereals, fruit juice a bit limited, and marmalade/jam in the usual dreaded little peel-off containers. Hot food well presented and good standard, with friendly staff, though only the choice from bacon, eggs, mushrooms, sausage etc etc were available. One problem for people who come to Witney on B & B for several nights (not the fault of the owners) is that the town is a virtual gastronomic desert - bog-standard evening meals are the norm. We had to go to Woodstock and the Trout south of Bampton to find anything of quality. Verdict - quite OK for 1 or at most 2 nights, but not longer owing to the difficulties mentioned.

This is a lovely example of what a B&B should be. The welcome was a meeting of friends, the room was comfortable and well equipped and the breakfast was excellent. Such a variety of starters with a bowl of fruit worthy of a painting, The fried eggs were real sunnysiders, such a welcome from all too frequent offerings which look as if they have been cooked in a cement mixer. There was also a comfortable sitting area in a conservatory overhung with a vine promising Summer visitors a tempting view.
The Fleece nearby provided evening meals of varying quality. Mine was absolutely delicious but other meals for our party were not up to a similar standard. Their service and attitude were exemplary and they waived the charge for one dish but I still feel that for the high prices they were charging this variation of standard should not occur.

Room Tip: Ask about position of room

A comfortable room, an EXCELLENT breakfast, a welcoming, helpful, and exceptionally understanding owner, a beautiful position on the church green. The price was very reasonable too, I thought.

For lunch and dinner there's the Fleece next door (OK beer, good cooking, but quite expensive) or there are lots of other restaurants nearby, such as the Suwanna (good Thai cooking, not expensive) on the other side of the green.

Enjoyed my stay at the Witney hotel greatly. In contrast to some of the other reviews, I believe it offered all that can be expected of a B&B. The interior was homely and its set in a scenic location right on the church green. A Bus stop to Oxford is close by and takes around 30min. I was there on business but would have been just as satisfied if I were there for pleasure.

Stayed October 2011.

Lovely B&B in the centre of Witney with around 8 bedroms.
Pleasant staff, clean and tidy with interesting decor.
Breakfast was fine, a choice of cooked breakfasts with various fruit and cereals, a sign of a good B&B there was no scrimping on baked beans and they weren't a value range.
Well located, pubs and restaurants within a minute from the B&B.
Parking is an issue in Witney - speak to the owners to confirm where is fine and where will get you a fine.
