“Beautiful B&B with great home comforts and a warm welcome.”
Reviewed April 11, 2010

My partner and I stayed here recently the night before a close friend's wedding as a little treat to ourselves so booked the main en-suite room. Marianne the owner very kindly met us in her old school london cab at the nearby train station (Haddenham & Thame Parkway) and drove us to the beautiful seclusion of the B&B where we were greeted by her lovely dogs playfully barking!
The accommodation really was very luxurious based on my previous experience of B&B's, with a beautifully luxurious craftmatic-type double bed, jacuzzi bath, toiletries, robes, slippers, really it felt like a posh hotel. Marianne was a wonderful host and we found out more about the history of the property over a Dutch coffee (highly recommended) later in the afternoon.
Marianne also very kindly gave us a free ride into Haddenham to see friends prior to the wedding, before serving up the most exquisite breakfast the morning of our departure, this really was a highlight!
We were made very welcome and comfortable and would recommend this place to anyone staying in the area.

We treated ourselves to dinner at Le Manoir and stayed at Langsmeade House. It was a wonderful, quirky house with great period decoration and charm. Marianne was very welcoming and was very accommodating with lifts in her old London taxi to and from Le Manoir. We only booked one night but would realy have enjoyed staying longer.

The house was a real treasure and full of interesting objects. We were made to feel very welcome by Marianne who obviously loves the house and seems to enjoy sharing it. The rooms are well equipped and very comfortable. On arrival we were welcomed with afternoon tea in the lounge and in the morning enjoyed a lovely breakfast. It is the sort of house where you can go and feel at home immediately. The taxi service was an added bonus with Marianne happily taking us to and from Le Manoir in bitterly cold snowy weather. We will recommend a stay at Langsmeade House to any one wanting to have a relaxing and comfortable weekend away.

If you don't want a premier inn experience but actually something with idiosynchratic character and charm this is what you will get at Langsmeade House. We received a courteous welcome and the room was very clean and tastefully appointed, there were complimentary water, tea and chocs. There was a shared bathroom across a corridor but as we were with my inlaws it did not matter. Afterall this is part of the charm and a small compromise for such a lovely guest house. There was also a free taxi service (if venue within 6-7 miles) so that made the stay good value (but we did leave a tip !).
The best part was the breakfast - the fruits of forest, yoghurt, toast and traditional english breakfast with tea were top notch and beautifully presented.
Can't really add any more except give it a go if you are ever in the Oxford area.

We stayed here whilst visiting Le Manoir (can't bring ourselves to pay Manoir rates!). It was perfect - location is good, just off the M40 and set in beautiful grounds. It's almost on the motorway but the windows are glazed so well you can hardly hear the traffic, even in the still of the night. It's a beautiful house, with excellent facilities, large rooms and a welcoming host. She even taxied us to Le Manoir and back as we both wanted to drink. Breakfast was lovely. Would highly recommend it to anyone needing to stay near Oxford as it represents excellent value for money.

I stayed here whilst on a business trip and what a great little find this was! I mean why stay in a big hotel chain when you can get a unique place like this!
Firstly, it must be said that the landlady was most welcoming and very keen to make her guests comfortable as possible.
The house itself and all the rooms are very interesting and done out in the period style. The breakfast was first class and was served with silver service in a lovely round room overlooking the garden.
A place like this makes staying away from home and family a lot more bearable!

Being an Anglo-American couple, we take alternate Christmasses in the UK. The last night, before flying home, needs to meet several criteria. It should be friendly, relaxing, low-stress, and within an hour's drive of Heathrow. Langsmeade House, our final stop this trip, met all our needs and exceeded our expectations.

Langsmeade, just outside of the small town of Thame, near Oxford, is listed in Alistair Sawday's "Special Places to Stay: B&Bs", and we chose it based on its location and generous review in that book. The guest house's own website shows off its exterior but doesn't do the rooms justice at all. We had the only en-suite bedroom, and it was, like the rest of the house, high-ceilinged and gorgeous. The house was designed in the Arts and Crafts movement, with beautiful wooden panelling, and has been decorated with a winning combination of classically patterned wallpaper, deco lightshades and objets d'art.

The owner, Marianne Aben, is Dutch and very welcoming - she's clearly a free spirit and her warm, kooky character really made the stay for us. She will happily give recommendations for nearby pubs/restaurants, and also volunteered to drive us to and pick us up from our dinner (in her London cab)! She'll make you poached eggs on crispbread, a specialty from Holland, for breakfast, or anything else you could want.

Even though the house is very close to a main road, it has large gardens and we observed pheasants, rabbits and deer even in the midst of a bitter cold winter. The house's original panelled windows have been augmented with a layer of double-glazing, so the room was perfectly warm.

Side note: We stayed on January 1st, and made the mistake of not carefully researching restaurants for that night. The options for eating in and around Thame are extremely limited on New Year's Day evening, so check in advance.
