“lovely break”
Reviewed March 4, 2013

My husband and I stayed here as we were going shopping at Bicester village and wanted to make a weekend out of it. We arrived late afternoon, we stayed in room 309 which apart from the bathroom fan not working was a lovely room. The bed was big and really comfy, big wardrobe with mirrored doors, big tv on the wall, balcony, bottles of water and hot drinks and a desperate bath and shower. We used the pool facilities, it was nice, quiet and clean.
We went to the hotel restaurant in the evening and received a complimentary drink as I had mentioned it was my husband's birthday when booking, which was a nice touch. The food and service was excellent, an intimate restaurant which apparently over looks the golf course but it was dark so we couldn't see it.
Breakfast was delicious, again excellent service, with a wide selection of fruit, cereal, croissants and a cooked breakfast.
We had a great weekend, we felt totally relaxed and spent the next day wandering around Oford.

Stayed here while on business in the Oxford area. A golf resort, but do not let that put the non golfers off. The rooms a large and very comfortable. Food can be ordered in the bar or in the restaurant. Residents have access to the spa area with its pool and sauna. A hotel for relaxing in.

We had originally booked this hotel as one night spa break after reading the reviews on here.
On arrival the hotel staff were welcoming and answered all questions in a professional and friendly.
We had booked an executive room and were not disappointed. The room was spacious and kept to the highest standard. The King size bed was the most comfortable bed i have ever been in. Had probably one of the best nights sleep ive ever had.
The bathroom was great, had everything you'd need.
Only issue which wasnt really that bad for a one night stay was the view from the room. It over looked the back entrance to the hotel, not the worst thing but not the ideal view from the balcony.
Choice of food for breakfast was perfect, pretty much everything you could ask for, with a lovely view over the golf course.

The only other issue we had was the fact that we had booked this to have a spa weekend but on arrival we called the spa from the room to book our treatments, however they were fully booked. This is as much our fault for not pre planning.

Overall if your looking for a short stay then this hotel is great, just book all treatments in advance.

My husband and I stayed for 3 nights, over a long weekend for a very good friends wedding, in a nearby venue.
The hotel had the grand feel one might expect from a golf resort, but they've done very well with the more contemporary in-room decor (vs the more traditional / older, dare I say 'dated' feel of similar resorts such as the Belfry hotels).

One gripe was that no matter how high we set the air con/heating, the room never felt warm. Perhaps to do with the floor to ceiling windows on the outer wall, but granted, it did snow lightly during most of the weekend. It didn't bother us enough to complain at the time, but in hindsight, it's one of the things we've come away talking about, so we should've.
At a milder time of year, we'd have made good use of the small balcony - the view of the majestic Red Kites taking advantage of the thermals was mesmerising.
Breakfasts were good - surprisingly more of a cooked selection on the in-room menu. Sandwich lunch was pleasant, and a supper taken from the in-room menu was the same. But I wouldn't rave about it. (Anything that should've been hot was just warm, and the sandwich bread for lunch was a little dry - possibly from the mornings breakfast).

Our plans didn't include an evening meal in the restaurant, but the menu looked good.

As the Oxfordshire is a relatively new hotel, I'd probably have hoped for modern touches like a pod coffee machine / iPod dock (we had an Exec room). Although both are expensive additions, it would be a USP over other hotels who have already established their reputation.

I would certainly chose the Oxfordshire over the immediate competition/ similar resorts (Belfry etc) if looking for that rural location again, but if competing with the likes of Malmaison / Hotel du Vin price bracket and modern style, there isn't (yet) any sign of the quirky little things that set those guys apart. Even a fridge (for fresh milk) and inclusion of mini-bar with lovely, overpriced Belgian chocolate buttons and hand cut crisps would almost pay for themselves(?). The location is remote, so I'm not sure how likely we'd return, but the locals all rated the golf very highly (if you're into that sort of thing).

Recently stayed for 3 nights - just wanted a base to explore Oxfordshire area. Nice room/breakfast. Friendly staff, quiet location. All in all, no complaints. However, reason for posting is to mention an example of good service.

100 miles up the M6 it dawned on me that I had left some items of clothing in a chest of drawers. I arrived home mid afternoon and immediately rang the hotel. After checking with housekeeping, I got a return call. Clothing parcelled up and weighed. I paid postage and hotel dispatched same day - parcel received the following day. I like that. Well done.

The hotel is very modern. It is set on a golf course which offers great views, especially from the breakfast room.
The superior room was a very good size, nicely decorated and a feel of luxury. Top quality linens and towels. There was a walk in shower complete with chair for disabled use, unfortunately no bath. The shower was nice and powerful and the toiletries were good. My only grievance would be that our ground floor room had an inward facing balcony. The view of the corridors opposite was not what I expected from a Superior room. Other rooms do look over the course. Attempts to adjust the aircon didn't seem to make a deal of difference, so the room was a little too warm for my liking.
The spa facilities were excellent. A large swimming pool with jacuzzi, sauna, steam room. A little sparse on seating though.
We ate in the restaurant in the evening and all the tables had roses and petals for decoration. I believe due to being just after valentine. The mixed meat platter starters were great and plenty of them. The main of beef shin was a little dry for my liking but still tasty. We also had a surprise birthday cake that the staff allowed us to bring in and eat for desert.
The bar area was very quite and we felt a little isolated. Breakfast was very good. Fresh cooked food on tap.and the usual cereals, croissants etc. Service was very slow and my Coffee & Toast didn't arrive unti I had finished my breakfast. The hotel is about 2-3 miles from Thame which is a nice little market town. It is about 15 miles from Oxford. Our friends got a cab to the bus stop in Thame to then get to Oxford. The cab was £10. It is £30 if you want one to oxford.
Overall a great hotel for a relax and I'm sure good for golf, although green fees were very expensive. The spa is great, food good. A little quite in the evening.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony facing the golf course as the inside balconies offer nothing but a vie...

Stayed here on a stopover for London, and glad we did. Just a couple of minutes from the motorway, and a long winding drive to the hotel, we were met by a delightful receptionist who was very helpful and highlights what excellent customer service should be.

We stayed in room 103, and it is a large room with all necessary features. Bathroom had a separate shower & bath and was spotless. The bed was luxurious! Best night's sleep in ages! Having blackout curtains will appeal to many, and the views from breakfast were great. Breakfast was buffet style with a great variety and daily newspapers were available to read over a cuppa.

It cost us £99 for B&B for a night, and we will certainly use the Hotel again if we are in the area.
