“Restaurant review - High quality at a price”

We had a happy coincidence. The pub in Churchill, the village where we were staying, was full for dinner on a Thursday eve, so we were recommended to come to the nearby Kingham Plough by one of the locals. From the welcome to the food, and from the wine to the service, it was all excellent, and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening at the Plough. Docked a star for the prices, which we thought were a bit steep. No doubting the quality though! We'll definitely return.

We went to The Kingham Plough for Sunday Lunch. My first impressions was that it is a beautiful country pub. The interior is lovely and the pub is very popular. I ordered a beetroot soufflé for my main....it was really good. Dessert was mini handmade chocolates and a coffee. My husband had the same as me (we shared the chocolates) - we thought that - although the food was good...it was a bit pricey for what we had.

I would recommend this place - you won't be disappointed, just realise that it might be a little more expensive than what you might think.

We went for Sunday lunch, my friends had the roast which they said was as it should be, great roast potatoes and particularly good vegetables. I had the vegetarian option which was excellent. The starters were all good but overpriced, mine was very well presented and had fresh imaginative ingredients but at £13.00 rather steep. Two of us had the homemade ice creams, delicious and reasonable and a good selection of cheeses. A well chosen and priced wine list, beers on tap, some local. Although there were plenty of people there the atmosphere was flat, the restaurant side was not quite as it should be nor the bar side. The waiting staff were also plentiful but not very attentive. This place could be a lot better, the good cooking standard is let down by the support staff.

An upmarket Cotswold village pub / restaurant very tastefully put together. Booking made over the phone, I was impressed with their friendliness and their desire to be helpful, always a good sign. On the day the service was friendly enough but not that attentive, the bar was quiet but you really had to catch someone's eye to get served, other things were a priority for them. We were sat at a very nice table for 8 by the window, the restaurant was empty apart from 2 other diners. Very good starter of squid with decent dressing, well presented, the others had shrimps or mussels, which were also good. Most of us had a burger, which came on a wooden platter, with quality salad, homemade ketchup and triple cooked chips! The bun although probably made in house was a bit tough. The burger was good quality meat and cooked as requested however I have had better in London and NY, perhaps a personal thing, my colleagues were happy very happy. Didn't have dessert, just coffee, which was ok, prefer an espresso cup not to be filled to the top. Pleasant lunch but could have even better.

We visited The Kingham Plough while visiting the Cotswolds on honeymoon July 8th, fabulous staff warm and friendly, the food was 1st class so was the service, the bread was the best we have ever tasted, when we told the lady we were on honeymoon she bought us drinks on the house which was a lovely touch, the menu isn't extensive but that's what makes it unique we would rather have a choice of 5 or 6 first class dishes than a choice of to much which ends being frozen, the bar area is lovely and relaxing and the garden too, well worth a visit, wish we had been there longer to try all the bar snacks also.

Room Tip: If you want a lovely atmosphere as well as 1st class food this is a must

My husband, a friend and I stayed here after seeing Emily (the owner and chef) on The Great British Menu. We expected wonderful food and we got it but also much more. The staff were so professional and helpful and friendly. We even got to meet the chefs and have a cookery lesson. They were friendly and clearly passionate about their work and the pub itself. Accommodation was excellent and we cannot wait to return. The rooms were spacious, one with an amazing bath. The food was excellent, we ate there on both nights of our stay and sampled much of the menu. The cheese course was a delight and we managed to eat all the cheeses! The crispy duck egg starter was amazing. All the meals were tasty, well cooked and presented and we could ask for nothing better. The same was true of the breakfasts, the homemade biscuits in the room and the Sipsmith liquers! We will definitely return. Many thanks for the wonderful fudge, it was so good! Good luck to you all, you deserve to flourish.

Room Tip: Both rooms were well appointed.

We had a marvellous time at this pretty pub in the heart of the Cotswolds.
Dinner for 6 of us was first class, imaginative and very tasty. Staff were charming - particularly Ben and we had a most enjoyable evening.
We stayed the night in a simple comfortable bedroom (with a magnificent bath) and even found room for a serious breakfast the next day.
Highly recommend

Room Tip: Rooms were fine
