“Good for the Price”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

My wife and daughter and grandchildren sayed for one night at this hotel, in February 2013, the hotel was easy to find and had ample parking at the rear.
There was no staff on reception and it was a barman who booked us in and showed us to our rooms, very strange.
However he was polite and helpful, the two rooms we had were very clean and warm, with comfy beds, both rooms were quiet.
Our room, room number 7 had a rather outdated tv and dogital box as did our daughters room, reception on the tv's was not great.

Breakfast was ok food was warm and staff friendly.

Not a lot more to say except that the main room lights in our room kept turning themselves off and sometimes refused to come on for a while, reported it but nothing was done about it.
also no phone in the room or contact number for reception, but not any point becasue no one was there.
Also the car park, yes it had plenty of spaces and was safe but when checking my car next morning i noticed that there were a large number of 4 inch screws strewn about the place, as though they had been dropped !!!

As I said in the title..good for the price

We stayed here for two nights in Easter 2012. Very quiet location and nice atmosphere. Looked like part of it was being refurbished but that didn't spoil our stay. We stayed in the four poster room at the back of the hotel. It overlooked the car park but it was lovely and peaceful. Would stay again.

The Old Crown is located in the centre of Faringdon and is a lovely old building. On arrival we were informed that the present managers had only been in place for a week and that the restaurant was closed, but that proved to be the only drawback of a brilliant weekend if drawback is the right word. The room we stayed in was superb and old fashioned which we love and the service was second to none. What was unexpected was the experience we had in our room. There was obviously spirits at work with the movement censor light going on and off all night and the feeling of a presence in the room circulating our bed. This was not worrying and a pleasant bonus for the two of us. Definately worth another visit and we would recommend it to anyone.

Great room, great location, wonderful breakfast and attentive staff.

Would go again and recommend to anyone.

Lots of pubs, restaurants and bars in Faringdon along with near by country walks.

Ideal weekend break location!

We turned up here to be greeted by 4 people puffing cigarettes in the doorway.....nice!

When walk in it is a tiny bar and no reception. The place looked really dirty. The barman got paperwork and took us to our room. Our the door and up some stairs. Dirty disgusting stairs. He opened our room and gave us the key. He was polite. Our room was lovely.

In thei morning we went to the bar and waited some 20 minutes for someone to show us where to go for.breakfast. I even rang the hotel twice and no one even answered the phone great customer service!!!

I decided to go walking around and up some other stairs I found a woman. I told her we had waited and no one came to assist. She apologised. She showed us through for breakfast.

The food was edible, just! The only nice thing was the bacon. The rest of the food was cold aNd the sausAges must be "buy one get one free" because they were so disgusting. The dining room where breakfast was served was dirty. In fact the whole place inside and out needs decorating and CLEANING.

Whilst we are not in the habit of slating hotels we feel that we are helping other people to make the right choices so please, refrain from staying here!

This is the third stay at this hotel, the staff are very friendly. Staying in the Court Room again, a very spacious room with 2 king size beds which are very comfortable, and a jacuzzi bath. A superb breakfast was served in the morning, this was the only food (apart from the Sunday carvery being served, as the hotel is awaiting new managers, but there are numerous restaurants with the vicinity.
The lady who is running the hotel at the moment is lovely, nothing is too much trouble. The hotel is a great base to stay if wanting to visit Oxford, Blenheim etc.
I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Court Room, beautiful spacious room, a little noise from the street outside but this dies down after...

We stayed there for a friend's wedding and it was a very good experience! I asked specifically for a spacious room because of the wedding preps as well as an iron. When we have got there everything was set. The room they gave us (superior room) was lovely. Very spacious, good taste decor (romantic style), new and clean and the bathroom had a very good shower. There was already an iron and ironing table set up us for us. It was a perfect experience: comfortable, cozy and nice!

Room Tip: ask for the superior room or the rooms in from of the internal yard
