“The Bell”
Reviewed November 21, 2011

Just spent a great weekend in Oxford and stayed at The Bell, the family room was clean and comfortable, had a fantasic sleep in a very comfy bed and the kids had proper beds not a sofa bed!! The room was spacious and we were made to feel very welcome, Mel and Eddie were great hosts. Breakfast was fab freshly cooked to order with hot tea and friendly service. We would certainly stay again and would reccomend it to anyone.

We booked a room here as they are dog friendly and weren't dissapointed with our stay. The room was clean and spacious and the bed very comfortable, the food was excellent and plentiful and Mel and Eddie made us very welcome. They went out of their way to sort out a glitch with the electric heater in our room- even offering us theirs! We will definately add this to our list of places to return to.

We spent 2 nights here recently in the family room, and will return. The room was spacious for the 4 of us (one double, one single and a fold out bed; children aged 5 and 7), and quiet despite being in the centre of town. Bathroom basic but fine, bath with shower over, very spacious again.

We ate in the pub one night and had a very nice meal, good home cooked food, generous portions, and they were very nice to us the next night as we were too late for dinner so they allowed us to bring in fish and chips! Much appreciated. Breakfast all freshly cooked and again generous portions - my husbands full english could have benefited from a bigger plate! Children enjoyed theirs very much too, and the licensees were very welcoming to them.

Small car park and outside courtyard.

Definitely worth the money; a decent, friendly local pub with rooms and good food.

We stopped here for a lunch only recently. Faringdon town itself looked a bit bombed-out like most small towns in Britain these days and The Bell did not look too hopeful from the outside.

However the two staff were pleasant and welcoming and the food was very good with what seemed to be a genuine home-made steak and kidney pie and well-cooked vegetables. My wife's fish was good (and she is a deep sea fisherman's daughter so she knows her fish!)

Portions were too large as in nearly every place these days but good. They turned the piped music volume down when we asked too.

We would eat here and maybe stay in the future.

Room Tip: We only had a midday meal.

A delightful traditional old coaching inn not a single room on the same level!. The bedroom was large and full of character. The welcome was warm and friendly. The evening meal large and tasty. But the breakfast was excellent. We really enjoyed our night's stay and would recommend the establishment.

Room Tip: We had room 8 - in the roof - quiet, but not for you if you don't like stairs!

We spent one night here. The room was spacious and warm, with a comfortable bed. The evening bar menu had a good choice of food and was enjoyable. I would recommend the rabbit, which was lovely and not often seen on pub menus.

Thanks to Mel & Eddie fo your hospitality on our week long stay at the Bell Hotel, you both made us feel very welcome.
Head Chef Derek Burns has a varied & high quality menu, the room was ample, clean, tidy & cosy, as you would expect from a well established old coaching inn to be. Dating back to the 16th century, so much history to the place.
Next time we visit Faringdon, we will definitley be back to stay.
Thanks to Mel Eddie & staff for a memorable visit.
Highly recommended.
