“One of the good things about Faringdon”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 11, 2012

A very nice little coffee shop just off the Market Square. I use the place quite often and I am pleased to see that it is always fairly busy whatever time I visit. The coffee and service is excellent and the staff actually listen to you about how you want it served rather than resorting to the common practice of a handful of sugar sachets and a jug of milk. My daughter loves the hot chocolate - with everything - and the place seems to be a favourite with her and her friends too. The cakes are great but it can be difficult to find one without cream. The only downside are the preponderance of notices which are impossible to avoid and verge on the officious.

“Very cosy and great coffee and service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 11, 2012

I met a friend here for morning coffee and when I turned up it was full, however just as my friend arrived two tables became free. The cosy room at the back was just what was needed to catch up with my friend. The coffee was much better than chain store coffee, the next day I met another friend in a chain and the coffee was poor, so I'm going back to independents like the Faringdon Coffee House again and again.

“A Little Treasure”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 24, 2012

We've been going to the Faringdon Coffee House for a few years, now, & for us its virtue is that it doesn't change much. Tracey is passionate about her business, so the quality doesn't lag. Firstly, this Coffee-shop is one half of the premises its in, & that makes it rather small & cramped. I don't know if the building is listed, or not, but there's not much to be done with the structure, which, as has been observed here, has nooks & crannies, beams & fireplaces. Its divided into two 'rooms' with the front half seating a mere seven patrons, with room for more at rustic tables through towards the rear. There is keen competition amongst customers for the two seats in the window, from where one can observe the life of a small market town. In summer, or whenever the weather allows, there are tables & chairs outside to extend the seating.
The menu is not huge, but carries a good selection of breakfasts, lunches & snacks, with a daily 'special' on a blackboard: today's was fish & chips. There is a good spread of cakes, priced at about £2.50 for a substantial slice, & one wall acts as an old-fashioned sweetshop. The coffee, in these coffee-soaked times, is good, & my wife always has a cafetiere of Jamaican Blue Mountain brew. Warning: This habit is not cheap! There's variety of beans on display behind the counter, so you can specify what sort you want. The loo is clean, but as another customer has observed, it makes the point forcefully that they only want paying customers to use it. Tracey says that people take advantage otherwise, & she's had some trouble in the past where a loo-user also helped themselves to some other kit that was close by. Perhaps its a problem that should be addressed by the local council, who might provide a better public facility?
Coffee House staff are unfailingly polite & efficient, & tables are promptly cleared. Prices are not low, though, & my brunch/fast comprising 2 fried eggs, 2 rashers of bacon, 2 sausages, mushrooms, 2 cherry tomatoes & 2 slices of toast, though good & hot, came in at £7.50. The sausages are from the old-fashioned Butcher's just a few doors away, & are recommended. we have no hesitation in recommending the Faringdon Coffee House to anyone needing lunchtime sustenance. Its closed on Sundays, & doesn't do evening meals.
Tip: In the same doorway as the C/House is a lovely little jeweller's, run by the estimable Mr Perra. He sells classic & modern jewellery, & does a very good line in repair work.

“Coffee house”

Your standard coffee house, overlooking the market square, just up the road from the Market Place Restaurant. Comfortable with home made cakes and fresh food.

“Sweet”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2012

Just like a coffee house should be, its got a large outside terrace on a cobble stoned area with rickerty tables and chairs. Deffinatly not costa-bucks-nero type affair.
