The hotel is perfectly located to explore landmark Cotswold towns, the rolling countryside and the Dreaming Spires of Oxford. Bampton, home to Downton Abbey, is right on the doorstep, Burford only 15 mins away and is the nearest hotel to Kelmscott Manor home to William Morris in 1878. The Cotswold Plough has 11 elegant, confortable and spacious en-suite bedrooms, a restaurant and a bar serving local ales, quality everyday dining options, open fires and a sunshine terrace for Al fresco dining. The hotel offers something for everyone all year round, with an idyllic charm that allows guests to relax in comfort and there is free Wifi throughout. The restaurant serves an a la cate menu of seasonal mouth-watering dishes. Whereas the bar offers a more traditional British menu and the hotel's most unique offering: a Gin Pantry with over 150 individual gins and an incomparable knowledge of these drinks and their accompaniments.

“Overpriced ”
Reviewed January 7, 2014 via mobile

What a strange place, I'm not sure it knows what it is, and thats reflected in the huge menus with more advertising space of what they do than actual food, which is heavily over priced. The staff seemed a little clueless although very friendly which was the only saving grace. I would not return here and would not recommend, you can get a lot better a lot cheaper on the same area.

“Just fabulous ! A wonderful wedding venue”
Reviewed January 6, 2014

This should really be a full hotel review and I will start by saying that the rooms live up to their star status. You will never achieve 10 out of 10 with an old building but the rooms and the ambiance perfectly reflect the venue. This was the venue picked for my daughter's wedding reception just before Christmas. It is a wonderful place with traditional Christmas décor, roaring log fires, old world charm, corridors and nooks and crannies .. just wonderful. It was a small wedding breakfast (16 of us) and we were given a room for the meal which perfectly suited our small party. The staff were wonderfully attentive. We booked the hotel for the whole weekend, having a buffet on the Sunday for about 90 friends in the marquee which was located within the complex and attached to the main hotel. The food was exceptionally good, both hot and cold, prepared and served by three chefs who clearly enjoyed serving as well as cooking. The hotel has a mature experienced management team and several young staff in the bar and restaurant. They are all happy folk and clearly enjoy being there. For those who love wine, the list is very good, for those who love gin, the stock is endless ... they are famed for their gin collection .... From the first visit to make arrangements a year ago, up to the day of departure, this was a truly great experience .. thanks to you all ..... Steve.

“Saturday Lunch in the bar”
Reviewed January 4, 2014 via mobile

I've eaten at the plough a number of times in the last 20 odd years and in that time it has changed hands many times. This is the third visit under the current owners but the first time for lunch. Food, service and atmosphere were all excellent, highly recommended!

“Excellent Evening”
Reviewed December 18, 2013

I had booked the Gin tasting for my husbands birthday followed by dinner. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and sat us by a roaring open fire when we arrived. The gin tasting was very informative and an excellent start to our evening. As there were canapes provided with the gin, we didn't have starters but went straight to the main courses which were delicious and cooked as we asked. If I could find any fault it would be that we were in a small room to dine and the other guests hadn't turned up at the point we were dining but the lovely waitress put some music on for us. I would highly recommend both the dinner and the gin tasting to anyone in the area - it is definitely worth a trip to Clanfield.
