“A real "find"”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 8, 2013

We thought we had a reservation in advance for this inn, but had just had a terrible experience with the booking service we had used for this inn so called ahead -- quite fortunately. It is apparently very easy to find the King's Head Inn if one is coming from the south, Oxford or London, but we were driving in from Bangor, Wales, without a GPS. The general directions we got from gas station/convenience shop personnel were correct,( our Hertz supplied map being rather general) but their memories as to where specific signage would appear on the highway were not very precise. We found an absolutely charming pub whose owner made sure to seat us near other travelers, so it became a social experience as well. The inn is located in a tiny "suburb" to the West or northwest of Chipping Norton. The tiny bantam roosters were crowing away but in tiny voices, so they did not disturb our morning sleep.

Room Tip: Our room, #3, was also charming, but definitely built for sixteenth century people, which we are not...

We very much enjoyed our stay, the food was good, the service and staff was good,

The toast machines for breakfast were very slow and either took ages just to warm the bread or burnt it.
Many people use electric razors, where is the razor point with a convenient adjacent mirror?
Ditto for hair dryers.

This is very Cotswolds and a really good atmosphere. I have often had trouble getting a table at the weekend as it is very busy. It is especially good in the Summer as our children can play on the swings in front of the pub.

Excellent food, stylish rooms but plumbing from hell in the courtyard rooms 9, 10 & 11. Yes, three nights & three rooms!

Day 1 in room 11, Water tank in loft & boiler room below very noisy. We moved to room 10, for nights 1 & 2, which had a freezing bathroom & an erratic hot water flow giving a shower that changed from freezing to scolding every 30 seconds.

Day 3 moved to room 9 as room 10 was booked from that day onwards. Woken the next day by noise from the boiler house!

Complaint dealt with but the £30.00 discount (£10 per room move) said more about “fobbing off” complaint rather than dealing with plumbing issues. Top tip to the owners of the Kings Head Inn. When rooms are vacant either yourself or members of staff should spend a night in them & see what you think.

Room Tip: Try the rooms in the main building as their plumbing may be better. Maybe if I had been staying a we...

My husband and I stayed towards the end of November, we stayed for two nights and ate once in the bar next to the open fire and once in the restaurant, however the menu was the same in both, the food was lovely and tasty. The choice of drinks was fantastic with a great wine list. We toured around the Cotswolds and enjoyed a coffee on a really cold frosty morning in the village of Bourton on the water next to the river. We stayed at the kings head inn over four years ago, we enjoyed it then and I can safely say it's charm has not changed. We stayed in room one which was comfortable with everything in to make our stay great, we will return!

We came and stayed towards the end of last year,we had a very good experience, such an idyllic setting. To explore the Cotwolds.Set in a beautiful village but still close enough to the main roadsThe rooms are spacious ,extremely clean, tastefully decorated .The Kings Head has retained a lot of its original features but with a modern interiors too.The staff were very accommodating ,went that extra step to make you feel comfortable and very welcomed. The breakfast was delightful, plenty of choice ,and really set you up for your day ahead.would most definitely return, have told many friends about the Kings Head.... Look forward to returning .

Room Tip: Ask for a large room if required as rooms do vary in size

My husband and I had a fabulous 2 night stay at The King's Head. We had a very comfortable room first floor room in the courtyard. We dined in the restaurant both nights and had a completely different dining experience on both nights. The first night we had a cosy quiet dinner, excellent food, excellent wine and excellent service. The second night was even better - they had a Burns Night Supper (which they had informed us of before our stay), where the whole village turned up for a fundraising event. The village were raising much needed funds for the swings on the green so lots of money was raised and I even won a bottle of champagne in the raffle. Coming from a sometimes unfriendly London this was an amazing evening for us, as they made us so welcome. We were introduced by Archie (the owner) to many residents of Bledington and we were welcomed like old friends! We didn't have the Burns Night supper, but this was not a problem to the hotel at all, we had the option of choosing from the menu. We still dined with the rest of the 'village' and saw the Haggis being piped in, which was great. We had the most amazing stay and experience - one that I will not forget in a long time. I would definitely recommend this hotel - a traditional old world pub with good food, staff and very friendly locals. The surrounding area is stunning and nearby to all the lovely Cotswold villages. Will definitely go back.
