we were having a short break in the Cotswolds visiting our past, it had been a long time since we had stayed in this area . we picked the Kings Head in Bledington , nr.stow on the wold , out of our bible THE GOOD PUB GUIDE. we were not disappointed , it was a cold night and the lovely open fires soon made us feel warm and cosy . the staff were young but very helpful and friendly. there are many rooms to choose from for drinkers and diners , we chose the room at the side of the bar with it`s own woodburner , and settled down with one of the real ales on offer. after studying the menu my husband ordered the steak and I the battered haddock both were fresh and very well cooked . the steak thick with garlic butter on top , both came with skinny chips which were tasty , but a choice of potatoes or fat chips would have been nice . but that is a small matter the meal was lovely , and we finished off our drinks in the bar by the open fire , the inn had started to fill up more and many people were enjoying the food and warm feeling of this inn . this is an expensive area to stay and this was not the cheapest meal we have ever had at £21 for the steak and £13.50 for the fish , but it was quality food and we will certainly drop in again . highly recommended.

Hadn't been here for a number of years and thought it high time we make another visit. Pub is well appointed- roomy bar with restaurant and very comfortable. Good menu choices- opted for Chili salted squid and Cauliflower and parmesan soup. Soup delicious but the squid a little lacking in chili. Crab linguini and Partridge for mains- both very good. A roasted plum and walnut crumble with plum brandy custard, just magic- a truly great desert. Good wines too. Service efficient, overall a positive outing.Recommended.

We had a mixture of starters which were terrific and we all had the shoulder of pork which was mouth wateringly delicious. Must remember about the burger nights!

Wednesday night is burger night at the Kings Head in Bledington. All burgers are homemade from local ingredients, beef from a Hereford herd in the village, local lamb and venison and all for £10.

We went last Wednesday and the bar was busy, so worth booking a table. The full menu was also available, but we all went for the burgers and will be back on another Wednesday very soon.

The food was outstanding. The pea risotto was a work of art, the spiced lentils were just right and I really enjoyed my sardines. Portions were generous on the main courses and the prices offered value for money with the exception of the shared charcuterie starter platter which, though delicious, was we felt a little sparse. We were a group of 4 who had booked well in advance for 7pm last Friday which was a cold night. When we arrived we were offered a choice of a table right by the door in the busy bar area (too draughty to tolerate for a meal) or a table in the back room which was empty. As it was early, we thought the room would fill up and we went in there. However we were the only ones there all evening and felt that we missed out on the buzz in the main area. As we had booked so far in advance, it felt a little like we were not valued quite as much as we thought appropriate to what our expenditure would be for dinner for 4. I felt that this was a lack of thoughtfulness rather than being unwelcoming and I feel sure that this will be addressed in future. Otherwise the rating would have been higher.
