Thank you for exceptional service at lunchtime on 8/1/14. Staff went out of their way to serve my friend and myself with food not on the menu. The hotel well presented with ample parking spaces and all staff very helpful and pleasant.

Just arrived back from a 3 night new year break which we enjoyed enormously. The food throughout was delicious and varied. We had an inclusive break and there was no limit on what you could have to drink and included bottles of wine and double measures of spirits. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We are thinking of returning next year.

We stayed for 3 nights on an all inclusive New Year break. From the minute we checked in to the minute we checked out all the staff were incredible, nothing was too much trouble.
The food was very good, great choice and if it wasn't to your taste then they would make sure they served you something that was. The bar staff were polite chatty and even entertained us with a dance New Years Eve.
New Years Eve dinner was exceptional and the piper at midnight was a wonderful touch.
The only extra charge was single malt whiskey and a certain brandy but all other drink including a good selection of wines was all inclusive.
The management were always about with a smile and making sure everything was ok.
Service in all areas was quick and friendly.
The room was a good size, very clean and serviced every day. The only negative I can say is that the water pressure in the shower was not good.
We would not hesitate to return or recommend this hotel.

Having recently stayed at one of the other hotels in the Four Pillars group - Tortworth Court - which was fabulous, I suppose we had quite high expectations of the Four Pillars at Abingdon. It was OK but we can only give it an average score having stayed in lots of places, like Tortworth, which seem much better. Our ground room was fine and wheelchair accessible though we hadn't asked for that. It was on a corridor opposite the housekeepers office and we did hear the odd conversation outside our door, though it was not a serious disturbance. The bathroom was actually a wetroom with a large shower and it was hard to work the special taps. We made do with a cold shower. We much prefer a room with a bath.
We slept poorly (not necessarily the hotel's fault) and if you like a totally dark room then you need to find a way to cover up the luminous fire notice! All in all, it was OK for a one night break but I don't think we would intentionally return to it. The room was clean and the breakfast was very good.

Title applies to both the hotel (worn is a good description) and how the operate (I was just charged a pound for nuts after buying a pint!). The staff is very nice, but can not makeup for the lack of keeping up or at least trying to keep up with the times. The Four Pillars in Oxford is a better choice if available...

The staff were friendly throughout the hotel. The evening dinner was very pleasant and the menu offered a good variety of choices. The menu was much better than 'pub food' available in the nearby pubs, as it was proper quality restaurant food at a very decent price. Well done to the chef and kitchen staff! Breakfast, however, was a bit average for the price.

We had a family room for 2 nights on the first floor. On the plus side it was very clean. But it was very dated. The beds were fine, but the bathroom was in desperate need of refurbishment, and the bathroom door needed replacing as it was so tatty. The shower did not regulate its temperature very well. Due to this I would say that the standard rooms are overpriced for what they provide. I would recommend booking one of the Connoisseur rooms, as these have been updated recently (but obviously are a bit more expensive).

I would stay again, but only in one of the updated rooms.

Room Tip: If you have no mobility problems book a 1st floor room, as you can hear the footsteps above (so my i...

Didn't think this sort of hotel existed any more. Think back to the days when Post House was the height of commercial traveller chic (if you're old enough).
Friendly staff, who tried hard, but faded decor, long soulless corridors, limited menu in the restaurant and limited wine selection. Also, sadly, rather tasteless food even though the menu looked interesting enough.
My room was a twin with probably the narrowest beds I have ever seen but the main problem was that it was freezing cold and the only heating was rather ineffective electric wall heater. Turned it up full blast and it was just about okay by bed-time but then (of course), hot and stuffy at 2am!
Bathrooms have been refurbished but a couple of fittings already broken, which does not bode well for the future. Wi-Fi signal good in reception but had faded to 'weak' by the time I reached the room (see above about the long corridor).
As others have said: tries hard but needs to do better. I don't know what else there is in the area but I would have thought you could find better value elsewhere.

Room Tip: Some traffic noise from the access road to nearby Tesco Superstore. Rooms at the front probably quie...
