Owner description: Creswell Crags is a world famous archaeological site, a limestone gorge with caves and lake, home to Britain's only known Ice Age Cave Art. This art is thought to date to about 13,000 years ago and provide a glimpse into the rich culture and fascinating life of our distant relatives. Over 100 years of archaeological work at the site has unearthed stone tools and remains of animals providing evidence for a fascinating story of life during the last Ice Age.

My kids are 10 & 12 and loved exploring the caves and hearing the history. The park is beautifully kept and ideal for taking a picnic while the kids run off some excess energy. Lovely visitor centre and cafe. Well worth the trip:-)

Had an evening walk around the lake at Creswell Crags after the Visitor's Centre was closed. Very tranquil and beautiful. The information boards were useful and gave enough detail for someone who had little knowledge about the era.

You should be aware that there are tours only on weekends and school holidays. When there are no tours the activity is just a short but pleasant stroll around a lake on a flat gravel path. There are a few signs to read and you can look at the caves, but they are covered by metal bars. Unfortunately some of he rock faces are marred by graffiti that is not from the Neolithic era. There is a fairly nice playground.

We had a lovely walk around the lake and we are looking forward to visiting again to see the caves,. There is so much to learn and so much to see as well as it being a really quiet and calm area for an evening stroll.
