My wife and I recently called in at the lion hotel for a spot of lunch before our trip to the cinema opposite. Upon entering the member of staff on that day was warm and welcoming ( I believe her name was Julie) the service we received was second to none, she was polite attentive informative and friendly. The food itself was excellent, obviously all home cooked by somebody with a passion for their job. Upon receiving my bill I was also pleasantly surprised by how reasonable the prices where, definitely worth a visit.

The Lion is a nice hotel with good staff and a manager that is on hand, checking around to ensure things are in order. The parking is limited, but there is a car park right behind the hotel. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and as it had Sky sports channels, a hit with my husband. We did not have an evening meal, but it was busy so it must be fine. The general bar area seems to be used by the locals as well as guests, but there was plenty of space. Breakfast was decent, and again the staff are helpful and on hand. Sometimes I find the ratings on Trip Advisor difficult, as I would really rate this as good, not average. Worksop itself would be good to use to stop over if you were going out and about in Nottingham, although from the little we saw of it I would probably agree with some of the other comments about it being a bit worn. We found a very good Indian restaurant, although we had to ask the hotel staff as we didn't find on ourselves, within easy walking distance, The Chinook. Nothing to complain about, and happy to recommend the hotel.

Room Tip: The new part of the hotel seems a bit more up to date.

We recently stayed at the Lion for two nights on a Groupon deal. There are a limited amount of parking places but there is a cheap council run carpark at the back of the hotel. Our room 310 was on the top floor. It was modern and clean. The bedroom and bathroom were both quite spacious. The large TV was a 'smart' one which doubled as a computer with a keyboard on the back of the remote. The breakfast passed the sausage test, very tasty although let down a little by the quality of the hash brown. Apart from the breakfast we didn't eat at the hotel but did eat at the Chinese restaurant which is on the road opposite. Drinks prices at the Lion weren't too bad, £13 for a bottle of wine and £3.05 for a lager. All the staff we encountered during our stay were pleasant and helpful. While we were there we visited Creswell Crags which is highly recommended. The hotel has character, history and allegedly a ghost but unfortunately she wasn't around during our enjoyable stay!

This was our second stay here. Hotel ideally situated for us going to the 80's rewind festival at Clumber Park. All staff friendly, courteous and helpful. Room clean and good size. Food very good and the breakfast was excellent. We will be returning in August 2014.

I have stayed here a few times now and just keeps getting better and better. Food superb both in the bar and at breakfast. Lovely room, although a little pricey at £90 single occupancy. Just one small complaint, come on housekeeping, pillow smelt of stale sweat
