“Big and Beautiful”
Reviewed November 19, 2013

Stayed the one night on an offer from Groupon. The room was large, massive bed, TV placed on the wall opposite the bed, so good for viewing. Great big wetroom, plenty of wardrobe storage, blinds on windows which were fine. You can make a cup of tea or coffee just down the hallway in a well stocked kitchen. You get two £5 breakfast vouchers to use in the Coffee Shop. It does'nt open till nine, which may be a problem for folks wanting to make an early start to their journey. For us it was fine, as we were in no hurry. I had a well cooked full english, while my wife had scrambled eggs on toast. Both were excellent, with a varied selection of tea and coffee. Tremendous value for money, and I can imagine perfect for disabled people.

Room Tip: We were in Hardwick which was first class.

This is a collage campus and we are in our 50s.
But that aside the welcome was friendly and we were swiftly shown to our room wich was surprisingly large. I'm 6'4" and the bed was huge with masses of room. A flat screen tv mounted on the wall opposite the bed and cupboard for all your clothes . There is a wet room and the shower is good and as it has curtains instead of a glass door so again lots of room. There's no tea making facilities in the room, but a kitchen is available just along the corridor, and it's a chance to meet other guests, ,breakfast is in the cafe wich is a couple of hundred yards away, and serves a well cooked breakfast, all in all a good break.

The building is inside college grounds and there is ample parking. We came during the school break and there weren't many people around. It says it's in the heart of Sherwood forest and we were hoping that it is near Robin Hood attractions but it was still quite a drive from the place that we wanted to visit. The rooms were spacious and clean. The bed in the room we got was two single beds pushed together to make a double bed and it was a bit uncomfortable at times when you fall in the middle and feel where they are joined (although if you stay away from each other on the separate portions of the bed it was comfortable enough). The toilet was huge and clean. There is only one thing that made us a bit uncomfortable, although the window that looks outside has a massive blind that you can pull down and curtains, the window that leads to the hallway is just covered by blinds, no curtains to cover it. We were a bit self conscious as light filters through the little gaps of the blinds making you think that you are visible on the outside as well. The banging doors did not help as the sound travels through the hallway and on the day of our stay, the banging of the doors started at 6:03 a.m. not really the ideal time of getting up we wanted considering we traveled a lot the previous night. That being said, we could not go back to sleep and decided to check out early and have breakfast in the cafe as we have complimentary £5 voucher for it---said cafe opens at 9:00 (we were there too early), we decided to have breakfast on the road at that point. If you are a couple thinking to stay for a romantic night, you might consider somewhere else, other than that would be perfect for a family, the elderly or the disabled as the facilities would suit them well.

This is an unusual place to stay. The rooms are really big, extremely clean and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom is a huge wet room and everything is designed as accessible for people in wheelchairs. It doesn't look like a hotel as there is no reception and the building is long and low. It looks like a residential school - and that's because it is. Our check in was a bit quirky. You enter the building and there is a note saying phone the number and someone comes to check you in. There is a kitchen and you can make toast and tea etc. If you wanted to make other food in there I guess you could do that too; as there is a microwave, though no cooker. The breakfast wasn't anything to write home about. You get vouchers up to the value of £5 to get food from the coffee shop. I'm not sure they are geared up for it as the guy serving seemed a bit miffed that the Lodge was busy and the food wasn't brilliant. Whilst it is unusual I would definitely stay there again. it is excellent value and the rooms are better than in some 4 star hotels.
