For a short break and a tour of the sights of Nottinghamshire, Crosshill house is the ideal place to stay. It is not too far along country roads to the main routes of the county and the feeling of being in the country with a lovely view of Laxton village from the window and the car park next to the well maintained garden.

We were welcomed by the host (expected us earlier … complex travel itinerary ! ) who oozed a lot of experience in this area but it was difficult to concentrate as I was in awe of the high quality decor, furnishings and the other small things that make the guests stay more comfortable. So often in B&B's space is compromised but not here as suitcases could be comfortably stored away but in a position to gain easy access to them.
(On a point of feedback, I am always impressed by the option to choose breakfast from a menu sheet in the bedroom on the previous night that is comprehensive and it can be tailored to suit the needs of the guest, but at the end of a difficult day my fellow traveller and myself had to have an unnecessary discussion about whether or not we should be documenting the starters on the rear of the form … a tick box would be less confusing as most people might expect cereal and fruit juice to be offered as standard.)
The breakfast which was outstanding (good products) was served in a room that didn't compromise on the decor and charm with the atmosphere being improved by an open window draped with curtains where we could view the Aga on which the breakfast was being cooked.

Look no further than The Dovecote opposite as it is an ideal compliment to the accommodation that produces magnificent food in the evening. There were others in the area that we looked at in a south easterly direction that compromised a little on price and subsequently quality.

We discovered the village of Laxton to be very quiet and peaceful on a circular walk to the church. Also in a two night stay we covered Newstead Abbey, Southwell, Rufford Country Park, The craft centre on the edge of Edwinstowe, Sherwood Forest and visitor centre.

In conclusion and all things considered, I would definitely stay here again and recommend Crosshill house to anyone looking for accommodation in the area.

We were visting friends in nearby Weston and stayed here for two nights - the breakfasts were wonderful, the room very comfortable and clean. I liked that our room had space to hang up clothes, a space for a suitcase and a comfortable chair to read in. Roberta was helpful and friendly and gave us insights into the local area. The garden(s) were beautiful - it was so pleasant to eat our breakfast with views of the lush garden!

Stayed one night and everything was perfect. Dovecote pub directly opposite provides fine ales and good evening meals. Free internet and traditional English breakfast. Just make sure you list out everything you want for breakfast on the chart that is provided.

We recently stayed with the lovely Roberta and booked the Church View Room. This is a separate barn away from the main house. It was a really beautiful place and the welcome we got from Roberta and her friend John was just first class!

We had been at a local wedding and found ourselves without a taxi in the early hours of the morning - Roberta came to our rescue and sent John to collect us! Talk about going the extra mile!

Breakfast was excellent! Full English (and Roberta would probably have kept the food coming if we had requested it!)

If we are back in Nottingham again, I would not even think to book anywhere else. This really is a 5 star little gem of a place.

Thank you Roberta for making our stay so warm and pleasant.

Crosshill House is a beautifully restored and maintained rural Nottinghamshire house set in a quiet idyllic village. There are lovely views over the surrounding countryside. Plenty of off-road parking space and immaculately maintained gardens.

The proprietor is friendly and welcoming, the rooms are warm, clean, and very comfortable, with plenty of storage space for clothing, luggage etc.

A short walk away is the Dovecote Inn and restaurant, which serves most excellent food and a good range of real ales, beers and wines.
