Description: Just a short hop from the non-stop of Nottingham, Langar Hall is a million miles from the citys buzz. Set in a small country hotel, it combines an historic atmosphere with sophisticated dcor and delicious fine dining. Popular with locals and visitors, Langar Halls intimate dining room has a classic sophistication, with white tablecloths and gleaming tableware, which makes every meal feel like a special occasion. The menu is equally simple and classic, reflecting the English country house style in the use of local ingredients, including a good line in meats and cheeses from nearby farms the true taste of Nottinghamshire couldnt be further from mushy peas and mint sauce.

“Sunday anniversary lunch to remember”
Reviewed June 2, 2013

We were so happy when we managed to get a table to celebrate our anniversary as Langar was highly recommended by friends. It was a beautiful sunny day and we were welcomed warmly on arrival and taken through to lovely room to look at the menu and have a glass of wine. We had the most delicious dinner and never had to wait long between courses. The staff were friendly and professional. The turbot was very good and my husband really enjoyed the 12 hour pork. After dessert we sat in the beautiful garden while we had coffee. We got to talk with Imogen the owner about the flowers. Afterwards we had a walk through the grounds. Will definitely visit again but will try an evening meal next time or the afternoon tea.

Thank you for writing the review on both hotel and restaurant. I am glad you liked the wine list. I choose it with Pascal, our ex restaurant manager who comes on Saturdays to sort it out with wines we both enjoy drinking. Lots of Bordeaux which we buy from Tanners. Disaster with our favorite Faithful Hound Mulderbosh which, for some reason is no longer obtainable. What has happened to Mulderbosh? Can any one tell me?

“Excellent”
Reviewed May 12, 2013

Booked in for a night in April, friends 50th. The evening meal, which 6 of us enjoyed in a private room was absolutely superb. The quality and the presentation was top class. We were looked after by Dan, who did a great job sorting out any requests we had and worked really hard all night to ensure we had the perfect evening. The room we had was lovely, a huge comfortable bed, a nice en-suite and lounge area. Langar Hall is so relaxing. We also spent some time with Imogen the owner, who is a lovely lady with some great stories. Breakfast was also a delight served in the Garden Room, and again the quality was excellent. Grace did us proud sorting out our visit and making sure everything was perfect. Highly recommended and can't wait to visit again.

A huge thank you for your exceptional review. It was really nice of you to mention the staff by name, they were delighted and I am so proud of them. All our chefs are young local boys and Dan started when he was at school with my grandaughter. The others are from India Africa France and Poland so we enjoy a global family here in the middle of England. It makes me so happy when customers show their appreciation and thanks to all of you we have been nominated on the final list of Rural Hotel of the Year by The Food & Travel Magazine 2013.

“Delightful lunchtime experience”
Reviewed May 10, 2013

Warm Winter sun filtering into the Garden Room made our 3 course lunch at Langar even more enjoyable. Given the somewhat eccentric furnishings and a slight mix-up over the menu, we were not sure what to expect - we were pleasantly surprised. By choosing one meal from each of the two set menus, we were able to mix and match to get a good choice of dishes at a very reasonable price. Starters, including the signature twice baked cheese souffle were followed by an absolutely excellent steak frites and langar lamb. Sweets were competent but not exceptional.

Overall, a very good lunchtime dining experience. Not as polished as Hambleton but still very good and quite a bit cheaper.

Thank you for taking the time to write us a good review. We are flattered to be compared in any way to Hambleton Hall which I always consider 'the tops' .with its well deserved Michelin star, exceptional service, delicious food and all round sophistication. We have now removed the a la carte from our lunch menu, giving a much larger choice to save confusion. As for the somewhat eccentric furnishings blame Paul Smith and my previous career in the London art world. I am told that eccentric is the new fashion so take your comment as a compliment. Just out of interest here is Hambleton Hall's Michelin star lunch menu and the present Langar Hall lunch menu.:-

“Beautiful food served by friendly and helpful staff”
Reviewed April 26, 2013

Excellent food, beautifully presented. The chef is inventive, combining flavours and textures to design a plate that pleases all the senses. You can pay far more in a Michelin starred restaurant for no better food. The country hotel style (for that is what it is) is homely and relaxed - leisurely rather than lazy. This is not the first time I have reviewed this restaurant, service on the first visit being not all we had expected. I am pleased we chanced a second visit and found things as they should be -we enjoyed a thoroughly wonderful evening. We'll return again, and would recommend you try it too.
