A wonderful countryside retreat with an amazing history, a charming owner and fantastic staff. My wife and I suffer from an appreciation of old fashioned values and Langar Hall provides an example of how life might have been and the quality of accommodation, service and food was worthy of an excellent review. Sitting in the wonderful lounge I was almost expecting a visit from poi rot or another Agatha Christie stalwart. Seeing is believing and I certainly recommend this experience before it disappears into the ether of the history book.

From the minute I arrived at Langar Hall with my husband I just knew it was going to be fabulous . We chose Langar Hall as we live close by in Lincoln and knew it would only take us 40 minutes to get there and it was our wedding anniversary so quite a special visit !
Imogen , the owner and hostess was a complete delight , she made us feel extremely welcome and we left after breakfast the following morning feeling as if we had known her for years .
The rooms are fabulous , food amazing and the wine list exceptional . We chose a lovely bottle of white burgundy which was to die for !
We are already planning our next visit and have promised ourselves that we shall definitely become regular visitors to the Hall. It certainly is a little piece of Heaven !!

Room Tip: I stayed in the Edward room which was fabulous and the bed super comfortable . My husband , because...

Ingrid Skirving, who owns and runs Langar Hall is a national treasure.
The service is discreet and delightful and one feels that they are genuinely interested in their guests.
Dinner was wonderful with creative food well presented and the Cartland room was spacious and very comfortable. Afternoon tea outside was also a treat.

Loved your review. Thank you. Today we had the annual Classic & Vintage car day…not an oasis of calm between 2pm - 7pm but some wonderful cars and afternoon tea for 100 happy car enthusiasts. Hope you have reason to come again.

This was our second visit to Langar Hall, but the first visit with our three daughters. We had booked the Lilac room for myself and my husband and the Brownlow suite for our girls. Although the Lilac room is quite small I loved how cosy and warm it was. The views from it's window was lovely and the bed was extremely comfortable. Our daughters absolutely adored their room. It was spacious (having a separate seating area with a sofa bed in) and really feminine. The girls were totally enamoured with the beautiful bed. Again the views of the garden from this room are lovely.
We spent Sunday afternoon picnicking on the croquet lawn, drinking Pimms and lemonade and watching a superb production of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'-it doesn't get more English than that!
Dinner was wonderful, although we didn't expect it not to be! The chef, very kindly, made pan fried chicken for our 'fussy eater' and it wasn't even on the menu. Imogen again came and spent a few minutes chatting at our table and I really feel that it is the exceptional effort that both she and her wonderful staff make with their customers that makes this hotel so special.
Our daughters have already asked when we will be returning; my reply was 'as soon as we can.' It is, without doubt, my favourite place to stay.

Afternoon tea in the garden for my mums 70th. The staff confirmed who the " birthday girl" was on arrival. Nothing was too much trouble - mum was well pleased - Imogen the owner made a fuss of her and even gave her a little momento.

We've been staying and/or dining at Langar Hall ever since our honeymoon, so it holds many special memories for us. However, these would not be possible without the delightfully furnished rooms and the invariably friendly, attentive staff.

The lunch and dinner service is quite superb - catering to our various omnivore & vegetarian tastes. We've never had a duff meal at Langar, not even close. One doesn't ever wonder whether its going to be a marvelous dinner - of course it is!

Sadly, breakfasts never quite seem to measure up to this benchmark. Elsewhere, the Langar breakfast would actually be very good (with scrummy marmalade on our last visit) but the bar has been set so high by the dinner chef that a bit more pizzazz would not be out of place at breakfast time.

Its a quite small hotel and bears the owner's personal stamp at every turn, which is surely the key to her success. However, there are occasions when one doesn't want to be made to feel that one is sharing a family home, or to have one's quiet enjoyment hijacked by others, however well meaning they may be.

So without letting this minor reproach diminish our assessment of Langar Hall, we do love the feel and the experience of the place, and most certainly hope to return.

Room Tip: Imogen has clearly solved the recent problem with noise in Cartland - we had a gloroiusly warm, open...

Thank you for your helpful review. You are quite right about the breakfast experience. I have no problem with the food from the kitchen but the overall presentation, buffet & service needs some attention and brightening up. Will keep an eye on the 'family home' part. Hope I did not interrupt your space, sometimes other guests get a bit too chummy too…
