“As perfect a B&B as you'll ever find”
Reviewed June 11, 2011

Right from the start, Beth and Mike made us feel welcome. The booking was easy. Directions were easy to follow and accurate. They kindly booked us in to a local restaurant in Wooler for the first night since we had a long journey up. Our room was spacious, clean and very comfortable.

The house is surrounded by the fantastic Northumberland countryside - their garden boasts red squirrels, red-legged partridge and tame pheasants. Beth is a great source of what to do and where to walk.

From here, we walked in the Cheviots, saw the Puffins on Farne, visited the Chillingham Wild Cattle, went to Alnwick and the Garden - all being in easy reach of the house.

Go to Firwood - you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: Ask for the Red room and watch the squirrels

We stayed for a full week in late Feb/ March and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house is in a beautiful location, our room was spacious and the three breakfast selections excellent. Most of all, though, was the fact that we were made to feel so welcome. Additionally, we were given lots of useful advice on nearby attractions. Highly recommended !

This B&B is as good as all the previous reviews. We were greeted by Mike and given a guided tour and then treated to delicious afternoon in the guests drawing room, and enjoyed the roaring open fire - the views across the valley were breath taking.
The B&B has been lovingly restored our bedroom was delightful, we even saw a red squirrel on the firtree outside our bedroom window. The bed was comfortable, breakfast was delicious - we enjoyed watching the wild birds from the dining room window. Beth and Mike are full of local knowledge - they were so friendly and helpful. We are sorry that we only stayed for one night and will return to this wonderful retreat !

My wife and I have just returned from our third stay at Firwoood over the last few years and it just gets better every time - Beth and Mike, (and Glen) welcome you and treat you as friends rather than guests, and the breakfasts keep you going all day in the hills, or on the coast path. With the superb Milan restaurant for the evening, and a short meander home to a comfortable room or lounge, this is the perfect getaway spot - even if it is 500 miles from Cornwall!!

The service was exceptional and extremely friendly; tea and cake on arrival chatty hosts!
Room was amazing extremely large with a large on suite.
Located in a lovely town in Northumberland with many very good restaurants nearby. Very good as a base for walking.

If you love Northumberland, you love the countryside and you like friendly, fun hosts then you will love Firwood. I've been going to this B & B with my husband and a few friends for a few years now and I never get tired of the area or of Firwood. There are only 3 rooms, which makes it perfect for a cosy break. Beth and Mike have a keen sense of humour which makes the stay even more enjoyable.
Breakfasts take a while to adjust to but after a couple of days your stomach has expanded accordingly! The food is great.
The quiet, peaceful location makes an excellent base for walking in the hills, woods and valleys around, nipping off to the coast or visiting unique places like Chillingham Castle and Cragside.
It is a home from home for my husband, friends and I and we would recommend Firwood to everyone except those people with no love for flora, fauna or relaxation and no sense of humour!
